It's the summer of the burn-it-down ballot measure in Los Angeles.
For the past three months, labor unions and business groups have been locked in a protracted fight over a law, approved by the City Council in May, hiking the minimum wage for hotel employees and workers at Los Angeles International Airport to $30 per hour by 2028.
Both sides, in an attempt to gain the upper hand, have proposed ballot measures that, if approved, would disrupt the city in enormous ways, leaving an impact that would go well beyond the hourly pay of housekeepers, valets and LAX skycaps.
Unite Here Local 11, the politically powerful union that represents hotel and restaurant workers, is looking to put four ballot proposals before voters that, according to critics, would wreak havoc on the city's economy. Business leaders, in turn, are under fire for filing a ballot petition to repeal the city's $800 million business tax — a move denounced by city officials, who say it would gut funding for police and other essential services.
L.A. City Councilmember Monica Rodriguez said the arms race between business and labor is spinning out of control, in large part due to a lack of leadership at City Hall. As the battle intensifies, no one has been willing to broker a compromise between the two sides, said Rodriguez, who voted against the $30 minimum wage.

And because it relates to business at LAX airport the businesses can't just move to Texas or something.
Kinda like government becoming unionized, where you have cops retiring at 120k++ per year and UP.
Nationalization of jobs and industry.
Passed through LA Airport two years ago as a stop over for an international flight the next morning.
Will never do that again. The hotel price was outrageous and so were the food outlets around the airport.
Avoid LA Airport if you can.
Over 18K have lost their service oriented jobs because of the mandatory minimum wage increase to $20. this was about a year and a half ago. Now, they want to jack the Entry Level wage up even further? These people are so, SO disconnected with reality.
Much of the blame goes to whoever voted for them.
Many elections in California are very likely fake or ‘cooked’, but I don’t think ALL of them are fake. Some folks still stupidly, knowingly vote for this kind of leader.
More than a few of them, and their useful idiots, are about to learn the hard way about the real minimum wage - $0.00 per hour.
So LAX hotel and food workers get $30 per hour. What about others working at LAX? Sounds like the government is going to have to pay everyone a minimum of $30 per hour or lose them. Baggage handlers, cleaners of airport, etc! Way to go LAX, guest just raise taxes and landing fees……
Unfortunately, the stupid media blames the layoffs on tariffs. They always get the message they want. Republicans just sit back and hide.
Tourists going to LA to be robbed by the government , LOL
Not the worst one I've been through.
BASS GOT CONTRACTS WITH HOTELS & TRANSPORTATION ENTITIES TO GIVE SWEET DEALS/PRICES TO OLYMPIC ATTENDEES.
THEN SHE SPRUNG THE $30/HOUR WAGE ON THEM
THEY CANNOT DO BOTH
Burn it down: propose even lower taxes and $60 hourly wage!
Give it good and hard.
Love watching packs of rats devouring each other...
Go rats!
It makes me wonder....the 30-odd advisers behind Bass/Newsom....if they ever talk between themselves. If I ran any concession within LAX...I’d be attempting to either sell it, or exit shortly.
L.A. passed a $30 L.A. passed a $30 L.A. passed a $30 minimum wage for tourism workers. for tourism workers.
$20.00 Minimum wage at McDonald’s
$15.00 Minimum wage for car wash workers.....................
Yep price increases are caused by Trump’s tariffs huh Moe.
