Migrants attempting to land on a beach in Spain were tackled to the ground by locals and tourists before being taken into custody by police.
Footage showed 13 men diving off a boat and swimming to the shore, where some were physically restrained by beachgoers in a tourist town in Andalusia, in the south of the country.
The incident took place at Sotillo beach in Castell de Ferro on Sunday afternoon.
Footage recorded on phones by witnesses showed a motorboat approaching the packed beach at high speed.
The men, reportedly of North African origin, started diving into the water and racing up to the shore.
One clip showed a migrant detained by a bare-chested man in orange trunks, who sat on top of him until police arrived. Another showed a beachgoer escorting a man from the sea.
Amid the chaos and commotion, some of the migrants tried to blend in with those on the beach, according to witnesses.
“We all stood there staring, not quite knowing what was happening,” Alberto Garcia, a nearby restaurant owner, told Ideal, a local newspaper.
