India said it had no plans to stop buying and reselling Russian oil despite an announcement by President Trump on Monday that he would “substantially” increase the 25 percent tariffs he imposed on Indian goods because of the practice. India’s foreign ministry called the targeting of New Delhi “unjustified and unreasonable,” and said the United States had once actively encouraged the oil imports Mr. Trump now seeks to punish.

Give all Indians born abroad 60 days to sell their assets and leave. They should be glad Trump is in charge, not me. They have absolutely no idea...
“the United States had once actively encouraged the oil imports Mr. Trump now seeks to punish”
I will bet that Biden wanted Russian oil to keep oil prices from spiking and further eroding his chances of reelection.
Am I right, Joe Biden? Up high!
Why won’t India agree to suddenly collapse their economy?
Call it playing two sides and its where conflict is unavoidable.
You know what else is unjustified and unreasonable? Letting food roam your streets while your subjects starve to death in those same streets.
Because it wouldn’t collapse their economy?
What collapse ? Their addiction to Russian oil started only after the Russia/Ukraine war started. They were doing just fine until then with Middle Eastern oil.
If I was India I’d say the same thing.
They cannot change their long standing energy economy on a single foreign demand.
Trump should offer India an oil deal, with the U.S. plus the Saudis to replace the Russian oil, with a schedule for its implementation; that would be a deal they could take.
Exactly.
India buys Russian oil, refines it, and sells the EU Distillates.
Especially diesel.
The EU/NATO is still a major market for Russian “oil”.
If Russia makes a peace deal with the Ukraine India would be able to go right back buying their oil. Not saying that India should go along with Trump’s request but it’s not like he’s asking them to do something just because he hates Russians.
>>”They cannot change their long standing energy economy on a single foreign demand.”
They can’t? I mean, this is the United States we’re talking about after all, the most economically and militarily powerful nation on earth. To describe that as “a single foreign demand” is a little disingenuous.
We are the most powerful bulwark against China, with whom India has clashed in recent years. And it was the U.S. that brokered peace between India and Pakistan only months ago. India has much to gain by good relations with the U.S. and much to lose from bad relations. We are not just any country.
And as far as the idea that switching away from Russian suppliers of oil to other sources would be particularly disruptive and harmful to the Indian economy, I see no compelling evidence for that.
That’s a great way to push nations towards China. “U.S. tells us what we can and can’t do, from whom we can and cannot trade, China does not.”
It’s arguably justifiable to tariff India to retaliate for its tariffs on us.
It’s quite another to tariff them to dictate who they can buy oil from.
India is not our friend or ally in any way, shape, manner, or form. They support and do business with all of our enemies and they vote against us at the UN more than any country except Cuba.
India needs to be broken up.
Maybe Trump should post two nuclear subs off India’s coast also.
Biden blamed Putin for the Biden spike in fuel costs.
“Not until you crawl over here and kiss my foot.”
