A conservative legal group has launched a civil rights complaint against the Texas Roadhouse restaurant chain, alleging it illegally discriminates by using Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), gender and racial demographic criteria in its hiring practices.
The complaint, filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission by America First Legal (AFL), accused Texas Roadhouse of using race and gender as factors in determining who should be appointed to its Board of Directors, tracking employees’ race, gender and ethnicity, as well as running “reputational risk” to its business due to its DEI policies. AFL is alleging that Texas Roadhouse is in violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
“The evidence demonstrates that the Company’s hiring, promotion, and recruitment practices violate state and federal law. The evidence also demonstrates that the Company has prioritized unlawful diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and policies over shareholder value,” the complaint alleged.
Texas Roadhouse wrote that it is committed to “attracting, retaining, engaging, recognizing, and developing a workforce that mirrors the diversity of our guests” and provided a chart breaking down the percentages of their employees and managers who were either women or people of color in its 2024 10-K annual report.
The AFL filing also said that, because of increased pressure from the government and investors to disclose its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) targets, including targets related to diversity and inclusion efforts, the restaurant chain is exposing itself to reputational risk as well as the threat of potential litigation.
The complaint accuses Texas Roadhouse of acting with an “inappropriate disregard of your fiduciary duties to Texas Roadhouse and its shareholders.”

THE YEAST ROLLS!
Must be a bad location.
Quality is still great at mine. Reasonable prices.
BTW, Texas Road House has nothing to do with Texas, much like Outback Steak House has nothing to do with Australia. Texas Road House was created in Indiana. They say so on their menus.
Do they still over salt the meat? I think that’s a Midwest thing.
“Are their French fries frozen or fresh made?”
They are frozen. The trick is to turn a frozen french fry into a product that actually tastes fresh. And they do an excellent job of it. The best part of Texas Roadhouse that doesn’t get a lot of attention is the consistency of their product. I’ve eaten there close to a hundred times over the years and never had a bad experience. That’s how it was in Texas.
Anyone else with a Texas Roadhouse experience?
They had the best fried okra I’ve ever had in my life. Sliced on the diagonal, and fried so fast it was still bright green instead of olive drab.
Unfortunately, my uncles went there once when it was apparently Amateur Night in the kitchen. They both received FROZEN lobster tails. Haven’t been back since.

Both of these experiences are from the same Texas Roadhouse in Lubbock.
When I worked at the steakhouse in high school, we would all order the beef tips with gravy and onions and peppers. I haven’t had it since but does TR have it?
Apparently the conservative groups do it they wouldn’t be suing.
Can't say. Haven't eaten there since about 2016. Didn't care for it the first time and haven't been back since.
People go gaga over the rolls, so I am told.
The only qualifications needed for a roadhouse is hot looking women.
