A host of European leaders welcomed the news that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a law restoring independence to his country’s main anti-corruption agencies. A total of 331 out of 340 lawmakers present voted in favor of the bill on Thursday, forming an overwhelming constitutional majority.

In contrast to Ukraine's recent legislative efforts to restore and safeguard the independence of its key anti-corruption institutions, such as the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), Russia under President Vladimir Putin has pursued a systematic centralization of power that has effectively eliminated the autonomy of analogous agencies and the broader justice system. It's all about tightening control from the top.

Take the courts, for example. Putin's crew made constitutional changes in 2020 that let him fire judges from the big courts whenever he wants, killing off any real independence. Now, the judiciary's just a tool for going after political enemies, with fake trials against opposition folks and shutting down human rights groups on bogus reasons. Even international watchers say the system's rigged because it's so tied to the government.

On the anti-corruption side, Russia has stuff like the Investigative Committee and Prosecutor's Office, but they're totally under Putin's thumb — no real autonomy like in Ukraine. They've got laws against bribery, sure, but they're only used when it suits the regime, and corruption's everywhere anyway. Plus, they've cracked down on free speech, opposition is forbidden. The Kremlin exerts absolute control over all media in Russia, stifling independent voices and shaping narratives to serve the regime’s interests.

Picture a scenario where Washington (Big Government under either Republican or Democrat rule) held an iron grip over every news outlet in the United States... dictating what’s reported and silencing dissent — chilling, right? That would be the end of America. 1776 wasted.

It's all set up to protect the powerful, not hold them accountable. In the end, Ukraine's trying to build a fairer system to get closer to Europe, but Russia's all about central power to keep things locked down and squash any threats. It's a stark difference in how these countries run, especially with all the tension in the region.

The famously successful Ukraine anti-corruption agency can now get back to doing nothing.

Oh, Frenchie, your pal Zelensky tried to get rid of “potential” investigators of widespread endemic corruption in Ukraine. But he got caught and had to furiously backpedal. By the way, how’s that new Palestinian state that you and your fearless leader plan to recognize coming along?

Re:
"On the anti-corruption side, Russia has stuff like the Investigative Committee and Prosecutor's Office, but they're totally under Putin's thumb - no real autonomy like in Ukraine."

See what Anastasia Radina has to say. She is the head of the anti-corruption committee in the Ukraine parliament <-- known as the Verkhovna Rada.

During the interview, she describes how the Ukraine parliament is supposed to work . . . but does not sometimes follow procedure.

In addition, she describes how the Ukraine State's prosecutor DOES NOT HAVE autonomy: Instead, the Ukraine State prosecutor has powers that let the prosecutor ignore indictments because the prosecutor serves the wishes of the Ukraine head of state:

Anastasia Radina is NOT a member of Zelensky’s party.

Kyiv Independent interviewed her - it is in an embedded video at:

He managed to arrest some Russian spies in those agencies. Good.

The well known EU saying, “ when you shake hands with a Ukrainian, be sure to check how many fingers he stole” will never change….good riddance Ukraine, you aren’t fooling anyone, anymore.

Everyone in the world knows about Ukrainian corruption, legendary, except for those infected with the Russian Derangement Syndrome.

“By the way, how’s that new Palestinian state that you and your fearless leader plan to recognize coming along?”

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

For over 25 years, a two-state solution has been a cornerstone of U.S. policy in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict... which means recognizing the Palestinian State sooner or later was America’s plan... Luckily, Trump seems to have put that previous Republican-Democrat policy on pause.

And now, the United Kingdom is also advocating for the formal recognition of a Palestinian state. Crazy.

Macron’s possible recognition of the Palestinian state later this year would be a terrible mistake (as I have already said a week ago here on FR). Such recognition, under current circumstances, is not a step toward resolution, but it also creates a dangerous precedent. It’s akin to legitimizing Russia’s illegal claims over Donbas and Crimea. That would be utter madness.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You seem to be infected with the Ukrainian Derangement Syndrome.

Here is the truth:

UKRAINE:
According to the recently published index that includes 180 countries, Ukraine went from the 144th least corrupt country in 2013 to 104th last year. It has also improved its score from 25 points to 36 over this period, with the higher number signifying less corruption.

RUSSIA
In comparison, Russia’s ranking went from the 127th least corrupt country in 2013 to 141st 10 years later, while its score dropped from 28 to 26. In 2022, Russia ranked 137th with a score of 28.

Martin Fornusek is a news editor at the Kyiv Independent.

If the article is on Yahoo news, usually, the first 20 articles are about hating Trump.

This is where froggy is getting his swill.

You again with the ridiculous spin: “See, Ukraine isn’t so bad. Russia is worse.” So Ukraine got caught and they had to pull it back when they saw they weren’t going to get away with it. That’s no credit to them.

Don’t you guys wish the USA would flush a few hundred more billion on the corrupt black hole of Ukraine?

There has never been a more profitable time in world history to be a politician or defence company marketer.

You can set up your family for life with villas in Switzerland.

The end result is hundreds of thousands more dead and maimed Ukrainians, which almost none of the “pro Ukrainian” actually give a damn about.

I guess 6 years without an election gave Z time to staff the agencies with his cronies - who are getting paid with the money Biden kept sending them without any audits....

Will the Ukraine now issue an honest report about its corrupt dealings with the Bidens?

“the Ukraine State’s prosecutor DOES NOT HAVE autonomy”

Neither does the US Attorney General.

That is why we have Special Prosecutors/Special Counsels. The Ukrainian equivalent (NABU and SABU) is more robust than that, because they are standing, funded organizations, that don’t need a case by case appointment.

Anastasia Radina was commenting on the need for NABU and SABU to maintain their full independent discretion to investigate and prosecute (because the State Prosecutor is subject to Presidential influence).

Zelensky and his Party did curtail independent anti-corruption safeguards with a law hurriedly pushed through during their recent big Government reshuffle (I see no honest reason for that), but yesterday’s newly enacted law restores the Independent powers to NAB and SABU, to the satisfaction of the EU, which requires systemic safeguards against corruption for members and candidate members. Crowds had been in the streets of Kyiv protesting about the weakening of the anti-corruption agencies.

And you are trying to support with all means possible the terrorist state of Russia and its globo-islamo-commie very close friends... : IRAN, North Korea, China ?

When will you decide to denounce the commies and support America and its allies?

Stop combatting Trump’s foreign policy. His anti-Kremlin stance is at maximum level right now. If you want to oppose Trumps and America, join the North Korean army.
