Germany seeks US guarantee before sending Patriots to Ukraine

Germany needs firm US assurances that it will quickly receive replacement Patriot anti-missile systems if it sends two of its own units to Ukraine, Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said Wednesday.

In comments to Der Spiegel news magazine, Pistorius said European NATO members needed "watertight" guarantees that any American-made Patriot air-defence systems sent to Ukraine would be replaced within about six to eight months.

US President Donald Trump last week announced a deal with NATO chief Mark Rutte for European alliance members to buy US weaponry -- particularly Patriot systems -- for Kyiv to help it in its war against Russia.

They want assurances they'll be first in line.

Multiple countries want to be first in line, including the US.

Patriots don't grow on trees.

Who knew?

Bill Belichick left the Patriots just in time.

And we know just how credible Germany is at their own assurances, don’t we? It took them 10 years to cough up 2% of their own GDP to fund their own defense, the amount they agreed to in 2014 as a member of NATO.

How many divisions does this court command?

Patriots don't grow on trees.

I'm pretty sure that the America manufacturer(s) will be happy to make them. Raytheon and Lockheed Martin don't mind making more money.

They currently produce 550 per year, and hopefully project up to 650 per year in 2026.

The US in the pacific theater could use 1,000 right now. Today.

They are critical for protecting military bases there.

Should we give Germany first dibs? Or, assuming after US stockpiles are adequate, we give them the next lot?

It’s not like we can just “turn it up” overnight.

Grifter... can you prove what you assert?

I could say you're a foreign agent, but I can't prove that either, but I can say it many times.

And, Russia is losing 5,000 - 7,000 troops every week, so, the Ukrainians are indeed kicking Russia's butt. Putin is not winning, in case you haven't noticed. No progress means a stalemate, which Putin didn't expect. Guess you didn't either.

Nope.

Not our war. Not out obligation to fund it, supply it, and otherwise perpetuate it.

“It’s not like we can just “turn it up” overnight.”

You are correct, but someone need to light a fire under someone to turn it up.

Taiwan is waiting to spend money on US ars we can’t or won’t deliver. Europe is waiting to spend money. Ramping up US manufacturing, and boosting the economy selling arms to allies is the quintessential MAGA move. Let’s get going!

We didn’t vote for this territorial conflict no matter who is winning or losing. Ukraine and Israel is sucking the life out of MAGA.

So, what's the problem? If they are producing that many and have done so for many years, we should have many thousands available by now around the world. And if there is a need for more, production can be ramped up. The more the merrier, especially if Germany and others are willing to pay for them.

It takes a lot of time to make them. They aren’t cranked out in a few days.

It's happening. Stop being in denial. We're in it and Putin hates that we're in it. And apparently, so do you.

In a long game, Russia can out last Ukraine even though Russia loses more men.

The only hope for Ukraine is either
1) Putin, Russian forces make a major mistake
2) Ukraine comes up with a creative (Drones, sabotage?) tactic to really hurt Russia
3) Miracle
