House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) slammed President Trump’s push to reopen the historic Alcatraz prison near San Francisco as “the stupidest initiative put forth by this administration” on Thursday.
“Being tough on crime is not turning Alcatraz, which won’t even be a prison for a long time to come — I don’t think it’ll ever happen,” Pelosi, a frequent Trump critic, said in an interview on MSNBC’s “Chris Jansing Reports.”
“This is not about being tough on crime. It’s being frivolous about money and silly about the choices they have made,” she added.

I agree. All criminals should be dropped off in the wilderness of Alaska and told to walk home. Crime would be reduced to a trickle, and the cost of incarceration would be reduced to the cost of helicopter fuel.

I dunno, all the cages are intact, the iron bars still look sturdy, and Trump has made himself famous for bringing in a rehab or even complete reconstruction on time and under budget.
Plan might work. Better surveillance, remote monitoring, a secure access point from water transportation, the few escape attempts in the past probably could not be repeated.
Go for broke. We still have a lot of the baddest of the bad out there.
The main reason to oppose Alcatraz is it would fall under the jurisdiction of crazy activist San Fran judges and the 9th Circus.
Plus support that economy.
Go build the equivalent in Arkansas or one of the giant deserted counties in West Texas. Give them 200 miles of waste land before there is a road.

Queen Nancy would rather not look at the results of her “silliness” in her district, resulting in a spectacular S-hole that was once a scenic and popular and wholesome tourist spot.
