CBS' "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" will be ending in 2026, the network announced Thursday.

"'THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT' will end its historic run in May 2026 at the end of the broadcast season," CBS said in a statement. "We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retire 'THE LATE SHOW' franchise at that time. We are proud that Stephen called CBS home. He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late night television."

CBS said it was "purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night," adding, "It is not related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount."

Not funny; biased, not informative.

The Late Show had it’s heyday when Johnny Carson hosted it.

And it was pretty clean and actually depended on humor, not raunch.

I just looked it up and it said he hosted The Tonight Show.

It’s been a LONG time ago and I don’t remember clearly. He did do the Late Show, right?

Johnny Carson at 11:30 and David Letterman at 12:30 was quality late-night TV.

Each served a purpose, both executed well.

When Letterman went to CBS and 11:30, he was OK, still pretty near the top of his game.

But once Jay Leno started overtaking him in the ratings, sizably, something happened to Dave, and he went rotten to the core.

Gotta wait until 2026? Why so f’n long?

Of course, I NEVER watch Coalburt, ever!

Why? Because I have the same reaction to his smarmy, vain, mannerisms as I have to Justin(e) True-dolt or Marx Carnage. More than 10 seconds of viewing would cause me to pitch something heavy at my TV. I cannot afford to replace too many TVs.

“it was “purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night,” adding, “It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.””

Coming from SeeBS, I feel convinced that the decision to cancel was due to the show’s performance, content [AND] other matters happening at Paramount.”

><

Yes, he is bad. He makes “jokes” about conservatives which are not funny, and the audience laughs like a group of trained seals at the not funny “joke”.
