Former Obama speechwriter admits shunning conservative in his family was a mistake

A speechwriter for former President Barack Obama suggested in a guest essay on Sunday that it might be time to stop shunning conservatives over a disagreement with their politics.

David Litt wrote in The New York Times that he felt "a civic duty" to be rude to his brother-in-law, citing his support for Joe Rogan and disagreements over the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccines.

"My frostiness wasn’t personal. It was strategic. Being unfriendly to people who turned down the vaccine felt like the right thing to do. How else could we motivate them to mend their ways?" Litt wrote.

This guy behaved exactly like my brother-in-law who has shunned us since February 2020.

Since BIL is an avid reader of the New York Times, maybe he will change his ways.

We never talk politics at family gatherings. Politically we're all over the place so that’s probably a good idea.

David Litt: "My frostiness wasn’t personal."

"frostiness"? Try "sociopathic indignation". Others are likely grateful that he showed his true self.

Personally, the Conservatives in my family prefer those people to shun us.

We call it the self flushing toilet.

And this guy claims “Matt and I remain very different, yet we’ve reached what is, in today’s America, a radical conclusion: We don’t always approve of each other’s choices, but we like each other,” Litt conceded.

Litt said his brother-in-law’s generosity while they surfed together made him rethink his behavior, and that his surfing guidance had made Litt more courageous.”

Like petulant brats, they think their holding their breath hurts us. There was no WE - his brother-in-law was a mature, loving adult while that liberal pansy thought he could ‘hate’ people into behaving like he wanted them to.

Someone associated with Dorkbama, the Muslim eunuch quota baby? And they actually imagine that he/she/it/whatever comes even close to being an intellect?
Uh-huh. And a Yugo is a fine car, too.

David Litt doesn’t regret shunning a conservative in his family, he regrets being able to take from them. How narcissistic.

However, Litt revealed that he wanted to take up surfing and his brother-in-law, Matt, was the only surfer he knew. So, Litt wrote, he put his unfriendliness towards him aside, and admitted his cold shoulder towards Matt had backfired.

In other words, the Obama guy WANTED something from the shunned, and put on a mask.

POS. I would have shunned him before he got around to me. I don’t suffer stupidity very well.

“””In other words, the Obama guy WANTED something from the shunned, and put on a mask.””””

That also describes my BIL. Prior to Feb 2020 my BIL always wanted something.

I disagreed with my entire family about Covid and the shots but I never shunned them or lost touch over it, what a silly thing to do.

The COVID “vaccine” injection has actually killed many people and protected NO ONE!

A Nuremberg II trials needs to commence and arrest all those responsible for the COVID panic. See my tag line.

“he regrets being able to take from them.”

Exactly. There are no principles in his decision to be more open to other ideas. If his BIL hadn’t been able to teach him to surf, they’d still be on the outs.

“We never talk politics at family gatherings. Politically we’re all over the place so that’s probably a good idea.”

Our family gatherings end up as Trump Rallies. The biggest one was my mom’s funeral last August with over 100 cousins and their families. We’re lucky that way.

Our “cousins text thread” on Election nights is wild.
