Electric Desperation: Tesla and Ford Urge Buyers to Act Fast as $7,500 EV Tax Credit Is Set to Expire

With the impending expiration of the $7,500 EV tax credit, Tesla and Ford are desperately pushing potential buyers to make their purchases before the September 30 deadline. Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill has ended the EV handout, much to the dismay of Elon Musk, Ford, and others trying to sell EVs to Americans who have not embraced the technology.
Business Insider reports that the race is on for automakers to sell as many EVs as possible before the $7,500 tax credit, a crucial incentive for buyers, comes to an end on September 30. President Donald Trump’s recently passed Big Beautiful Bill is set to eliminate this subsidy, which has played a significant role in making EVs more attractive to consumers.
In response to the looming deadline, Tesla and Ford are taking proactive measures to capitalize on the last-minute surge in demand. Tesla’s website prominently features a banner warning potential buyers about the expiring tax credit and urging them to take delivery by the end of September. Elon Musk’s EV giant is also reportedly sending out emails to would-be customers, emphasizing the importance of completing their purchases before the deadline to qualify for the $7,500 discount.

I like Elon in spite of everything. But he’s not enough reason to continue a government subsidy that was a bad idea in the first place. DOGE would not approve.

You’re fighting someone below your weight class with this guy, but thank you for taking the time. You're welcome. I don't want to remain silent and see others suffer due to only hearing propaganda and no counterpoint. We've spent too many decades hearing nothing but lies.
There are many who I suspect are paid to post, especially on the COVID-1984 and Ukraine threads, but it would also make sense that Ford would hire marketing companies with something like this EV issue since they're looking at a $5 billion loss for 2025 alone. Why wouldn't Ford throw a few dollars to posters on social media to help reduce Ford's losses?

There can only be ONE best seller!
Funny guy!
But, don't laugh too hard.
Because, the best=selling car in America is not a Tesla. It's the Toyota Rav-4.
And when it comes to overall sales, EVs are still a very tiny fraction of cars in America. And the future doesn't look promising at all for all EVs.
In the US, about 1.4% of the total cars on the road are electric vehicles, according to Edmunds. This figure refers to fully electric vehicles, not including plug-in hybrids. If we include plug-in hybrids, the percentage rises to 9.7%.
In the US, Tesla's share of the electric vehicle (EV) market has recently fallen below 50%, according to The New York Times. This indicates that while Tesla remains a dominant force in the EV market, other automakers are increasing their presence and capturing a larger share of EV sales. Specifically, Tesla's market share in the US was reported to be 49%, with other manufacturers collectively holding 51%
So.......
If EVs are only a 'whopping' 1.4% of the market, and Teslas are less than 1/2 of EVs, that means that Tesla only has 0.7 percent of the car market. It's very easy to be the best seller of EVs if the overall market for EVs is virtually non-existent.
Not so funny after all, is it?

He says "the reality is" ... and then he comically claims EVs won't overtake ICE vehicles "100 years" from now. How can something 100 years from now possibly be "reality?" LOL. Talk about over-the-top nonsensical gibberish! Too funny.
More than 100 years ago, EVs overtook the horseless carriage and even riding horseback.
More than 100 years ago, EVs were easily overtaken by fossil-fueled vehicles, and even to this day, EVs are insignificant. Can't argue with the facts.
When EVs were resuscitated about a couple decades ago, the promise what that new battery technology would make them worthwhile again, and might even overtake ICE vehicles in the market. Fas forward to today and we can see that the promises were actually nothing more than that, promises and nothing real to write hom about.
And lately we hear the same kind of promises being made that new technology and new research into battery chemistry that would make batteries more capable;;, meanwhile, those promises are the same as we heard some 20 years ago.
EVs are NOT the future for American car makers:
Ford's CEO refuses to see the writing on the wall. IOW, he's in denial and the truth will make him reconsider and will have to abandon EVs. The truth is out there, and it doesn't look pretty for Ford or for other EV makers.
Ford has lot 10 billion dollars in the last 2 years, and is expected to lose another 5.6 billion in this year, and will lose many more billion in coming years. That's INSANITY.
But then, he's only playing with OPM. Nice! It's like going to Vegas and handing over your money to a casino before you even begin to play. Dumb as 'chit'!
Ford has experienced significant losses in its electric vehicle (EV) business. In 2024, they reported a $5.1 billion loss, and they anticipate similar losses in 2025, potentially reaching $5.5 billion, according to a YouTube video. These losses are attributed to the high costs associated with ramping up EV production, as well as the need to cut prices to compete with other manufacturers like Tesla, according to Argus Media.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
2024 Losses:
Ford's EV business lost $5.1 billion in 2024, which was an increase from the $4.7 billion loss in the previous year, according to a YouTube video.
2025 Anticipated Losses:
Ford expects its EV losses to be between $5 billion and $5.5 billion in 2025.
Per-Vehicle Losses:
In some periods, Ford has reported losing tens of thousands of dollars on each EV sold, with estimates ranging from $36,000 to $44,000 per vehicle, according to Reuters and Jalopnik.
Factors Contributing to Losses:
These losses are due to the high cost of producing electric vehicles, the need to reduce prices to compete with Tesla, and the costs associated with scaling up production and development.
Shifting Focus:
In response to these losses, Ford has delayed some EV investments and shifted its focus towards hybrid vehicles, reports Argus Media.
As you can see for yourself, the few clueless anti-EV dimwits on this thread are just blabbering baboons.
It's not about being anti-EVs. It's about being practical, and EVs have no proven to be practical and not ever profitable to the EV makers.
Ford is making some changes to its vehicle strategies, and hybrids are their only hope, along with the regular ICE vehicles. EVs are not the future for Ford, even if they keep making some; but wny continue making stuff that doesn't sell. Again, INSANITY (see Einstein's definition of that word).
The clueless, dimwit, blabbering baboon in this discussion is clearly YOU!!!

I was watching the Genesis Open Golf, they were giving away two EV’s for hole in ones. I was going to say you can’t even give away an EV, but I guess that’s where we are now...giving them away.

Outselling Camry, Corolla and Civic.
Teslas are still less than half of one percent (0.5%) of the U.S.A market.
I suppose that HUGE in your way of thinking. But, it's not making your case in defense of EV sales.

You're not following your own discussion. I saw you as making fun of my comment where I said the following and followed by your mocking response:
“Just because ONE vehicle is the best seller, “
There can only be ONE best seller!
Try to keep up.

Partly electric. Which is NOT the same as electric.
And battery charging is done via the gas-powered engine and from braking. Notice that, it's still dependent on a gas engine. Not exactly electric all the time, as in EVs.
Driving range is still mostly dependent on the fossil-fuel int consumes.

It is a big deal when you out sell Camry, Corolla and Civic.
When sales of those vehicles are combined, the sales for Teslas are tiny in comparison.
But still, the EV market is not really there. They're not taking any significant market share from ICE vehicles, and that's what the discussion is about.
