Liberal Thinking
“If you owned two homes, are you willing to give one to a family here illegally?”
The liberal, without hesitation, “Sure!”
Republican: “If you have two vehicles, would you give one to an illegal?”
Liberal: “Absolutely! It’s the right thing to do!”
Republican: “If you have two million dollars, will you give one million to a family here illegally?”
Liberal: Yes! For the livelihood of our dreamers!”
Republican: “If you have two bicycles, would you give one to someone here illegally?”
The Liberal remained silent and looked at the Republican, so the Republican had to ask again, “Would you?”
The Liberal answered firmly: “No.”
The Republican was confused. “You were so generous about houses, vehicles and money, but why do you draw the line at a bicycle?”
“Because,” says the Liberal, “I actually own two bicycles.”

NY Mets and MLB will probably give up to avoid huge boycotts of games and merchandize if they squawk too loudly.
Like the kneeling for George Floyd but retreating behind the seating when they saw the American flag or some Marines starting to play the National Anthem.

The beginning part reminded me of the early unions that ended up modifying a little by the 1960s but still were for the taxing of the achievers and sharing the wealth of entrepreneurs who provided their own employment opportunities to be union members.
In the 1960s the opening of the Dem presidential campaigns included giant rallies in the street in Detroit and elsewhere of union members shouting support for JFK, LBJ and the rest.
In the 1970s and 1980s the crowds were less important.
One observer said to the Dem strategist: “How come the crowds are so much smaller for the union rallies here now?”
“Well, a lot of the members are at their second homes up north at the lakeshore and they don’t come to these any more.”
Poor, downtrodden, exploited workers owned second homes.

What you described was actually said by the Pres of the ILA Teddy Gleeson in 85 or 86. He was asked why the ILA no longer marched in NYC’s Labor Day Parade. He said, “ My guys are busy closing up their summer homes out on Long Island or down on the Jersey Shore. They can’t make it here on Labor Day.”
Interestingly the NY Unions changed the date of the parade to the Saturday after Labor Day.

My story was from the Detroit News because I am a provincial Michigan person myself.
Went to college at Wayne State University which is home of the Walter P. Reuther Library, Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs. It’s the largest labor archive in North America.
Also once or twice a week for about three years I drove past the Machus Red Fox Restaurant where Jimmy Hoffa was last seen alive. I have an alibi for that day, though.

Long time Met fan, here. I used to think so, too, but look closely at the top and bottom of the “N” and the bottom of the “Y”. The curvature is opposite. Pretty sure the NY (Baseball) Giants log was the inspiration for the Mets logo, however. ALSO: I did not learn, until fairly late, in life, The Giant Orange and Dodger Blue were the genesis of the Mets Colors.

But they are also the colors of NYC from the flag of the Dutch Republic. And the first team to sport botk were the NY Knickerbockers aka Knicks.

Went to my first game at Shea in that magical year of ‘69 - Koosman vs. Jenkins, 55,000 in the house for an afternoon game. Ed Kranepool hit a walk off RBI in the 9th, and the hook was in ! Ron Santo did not click his heels, that day ;)
