Fuel to the engines of the Air India plane involved in a deadly crash was cut off moments after take-off, a preliminary investigation report has found.
In recovered cockpit voice recordings, the report said one of the pilots can be heard asking "why did you cut off?" - to which the other pilot replied he "did not do so".
The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed less than a minute after taking off on 12 June from Ahmedabad airport in western India, killing 260 people, most of them passengers. One British national miraculously survived the crash.
The investigation led by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is expected to produce a more detailed report in 12 months...

The CVR and FDR were both read in India.
FWIW, I wouldn’t take anyone’s word for anything at the moment.
Sometimes pilot error is just pilot error.
No need for conspiracy theories.
That theory doesn’t hold up. They switches cannot simply be flipped on or off. Those switches require a very manual, dexterity type of movement as a built-in safety function.
Hmm... Interesting theory.
These aircraft are so advanced they can be flown remotely... Which means somebody with the right hacking software can fly them remotely too. Scary stuff... Thankfully, I don’t fly on a regular basis... If I did, I’d be a tad concerned.
There is no way remote control can move those switches.
Exactly. I wonder if there was someone in the jump seat, It is possible they could have switched them off.
“There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”
Makes sense to cut off the fuel before crash-landing...of course, if the plane is climbing, then cutting off the fuel makes less sense.
I agree - it would make sense that the pressure would prevent such operation
There’s sometimes weird stuff - like the Greek (737?) where the cabin air system had been set to “test” or “manual” (forgot which) instead of “Auto” - they were losing oxygen while ascending - the contract pilot was already suffering from oxygen deprivation and didn’t catch it when maintenance said (on the radio) to check setting for “Auto”
Helios 522 if memory serves - I do not know if that is part of Takeoff Config now or not
I’m sure you know a lot about these things
There is no procedure at all to ever cut off fuel— other than for an engine fire, overheat, failure, etc.
“Sometimes pilot error is just pilot error.”
Not in this case. Unless something else is going wrong on the plane (which is still possible), there is NO REASON to be flipping switches immediately after takeoff.
Fuel control is NOT part of any Takeoff Warning System. It makes no sense.
I saw a report yesterday didn’t read it fully that fuel was shut off
Is this possible terrorism? Or a terrible mistake possible?
thanks
I doubt the switches directly control the flow of fuel. Maybe solenoid valves in the fuel lines could be hacked independently from the switches. But I'm only speculating here.
Yes, MANUALLY shutting the fuel control levers off is the only way they can be shutoff.
Right but were they shut off or is that just a rumor right now?
Sudden Jihad syndrome until proven otherwise. Perhaps the rogue pilot had a secret conversion to Islam. Yes I see the pilots have Hindu names. Some last names in India are used by Hindu and Moslems.
There is only one other way to shut fuel off to the engines— pulling the fire handles.
That’s what I figured
