The Democratic Party is sounding the alarm in New Jersey, and for good reason.
What should have been a cakewalk in a deep-blue state has turned into a frantic scramble, with party leaders dumping millions into the governor’s race in a desperate bid to stave off electoral disaster. Democrats are terrified that their grip on New Jersey is slipping, and they’re willing to throw everything at the wall to keep it from shattering.
New Jersey, a state that reliably votes blue in national elections, has long been considered a Democratic stronghold. But the political winds have shifted. The party that once took victory for granted now finds itself in a full-blown panic, pouring cash into a race that should have been an afterthought. The reason? Voters are restless, and the Democratic brand is tarnished.
This isn’t just about one election. It’s about the growing sense that Democrats are losing their grip on New Jersey. Donald Trump’s support in New Jersey has grown with each election, hitting a record 1.9 million votes in 2024.
On top of that, activist Scott Presler, whose grassroots efforts helped flip Pennsylvania back to Trump, is now focusing on New Jersey, aiming to replicate that success. With momentum building and the GOP narrowing registration gaps, New Jersey’s long-standing Democratic dominance could be in serious jeopardy. A Republican breakthrough in 2025 — and even a red flip in the next presidential election — is no longer out of the question.
And the Democratic Party is essentially admitting there’s a problem for them in the state by flooding millions of dollars into the gubernatorial race. You don’t pour millions into a safe seat unless you’re worried it’s about to slip through your fingers. The panic is palpable.

It looks at though one deep blue state may be on the verge of rescuing itself. I wish the same could be said for states like California, New York and Illinois.
Where are Robert Torricelli and Frank Lautenberg when needed?!
The more Spartacus speaks, the more the people of New Jersey listen. Let him keep talking.
We have a great chance in NJ. Less so in the swamp State of VA.
Joe Biden did well in 2020. I think they didn’t like Harris because she was basically an idiot.
Ah, Joe's an idiot and he's senile.
New Jersey will remain a deep “blue” state for decades. But one of the peculiarities of its election process is that its state elections are held in “off-off-years” (2021, 2023, 2025, etc.). This is why Republicans can still be elected governor there even while the state hasn’t elected a Republican to the U.S. Senate in something like 50 years.
Voter turnout and candidate enthusiasm are big factors in these elections. That’s why the Democrats recognize the possibility of losing there in November.
It will be interesting to see if a GOP gain is real this time. NJ elects a Republican governor ever once in a while, especially when the Dems have totally screwed things up. But that’s about as far as it goes. Maybe this time will be different. On the other hand, Trump’s popularity may not translate to the GOP.
Maybe.
But a Republican governor can go a long way in tamping down election fraud.
EC
So? Before he lost his marbles, he was quite approachable because he was a career politican.
He's from Delaware so he had to shake hands with normies.
Harris never had to do any of that in California.
New Jersey is the most densely populated state in the Union. South and Central New Jersey are sparsely populated, e.g. the pinelands. It is North Jersey that is extremely urban, and that means the Rat fraud machine is vast there. Performing well in the polls is not the same as beating the Rat fraud machine in NJ.
The rats absolutely stole the Governor’s race last time. The usual 3 am ballot dump.
Election fraud hasn’t been a big thing in New Jersey in years. The state became a decrepit, dystopian mess on the merits of its own voters.
Need to get the legislature too.
Jersey is a no voter ID state. The winner in November has already been chosen.
Im in a blood red small town in the Pines. They cant cheat hear because everyone knows there are very few rats in this zip code.
You are correct that the author of that article is giddy with Hopium.
Sherrill is likely to win by 10 points; she’s up by over 20 in the latest we-don’t-like-it-therefore-it’s-bogus poll. Jack Ciatarelli Round Two isn’t registering much on the enthusiasm meter and Virginia is likely to be a blooodbath too at all levels. Things may change by November but, just like in 2017-2018, the anti-Trump, anti-Republican hatred is palpable. “Experts” will blame this November’s results on “bad Republican candidates”, however (they are already doing so in Virginia, a pretty sure sign of impending defeat there).
The author also got a bit carried away as illustrated by this howler, or he really has no idea about campaign spending figures:
“And the Democratic Party is essentially admitting there’s a problem for them in the state by flooding millions of dollars into the gubernatorial race. You don’t pour millions into a safe seat unless you’re worried it’s about to slip through your fingers. The panic is palpable.”
Democrats have all the money in the world to campaign with and they ROUTINELY spend millions upon millions anywhere and everywhere they wish to do so.
Since we’re on the subject of gubernatorial elections here, check out recent ones in utterly safe states like California, Illinois, Maryland or ANY state where Rats were heavily favored, and look how much they spent compared to their utterly hapless GOP “rivals” — and that’s even true when the Rat had no viable primary challenge either, and therefore there was NOTHING to warrant spending so much except to spread around all that laundered money from billionaires.
The idea that Democrats only spend big $$$$ when they are in a “panic” is asinine.
“NJ elects a Republican governor ever once in a while, especially when the Dems have totally screwed things up.”
Ditto Massachusetts, Maryland and even in the rarest of occasions in the past, Hawaii, Rhode Island and Connecticut.
It’s often helpful for Democrats to have a completely impotent “Republican” appear to be in charge (while Rats safely have astronomical majorities in the legislature) so the the Democrats and the media have some GOP sap to blame when Rat policies destroy the state.
