I worked with groups trying to stop spraying in CA. Not much worked. Interesting, environmental groups didn’t care at all, wouldn’t even return calls.

I hate to let facts get in the way of a good story, but farmers have been using Diquat since the mid-1960s — not as a weed killer, but as a de-moisturizer to make crops easier to harvest. Really not a big deal.

What then would you propose be used to control the weed if it invades water bodies near you??

One of the Texas lakes (Livingston?) was getting choked with hydrilla so the wizards of smart decided all they had to do is introduce triploid grass carp. They allegedly are sterile and would eat the hydrilla and then die off. What could possibly go wrong? Unfortunately the carp weren’t actually sterile so pretty soon the carp ate every last bit of vegetation turning the lake into a swimming pool. I don’t know what it’s like now but it was pretty bad last time I was there in the’80’s.

Exactly.

Perhaps herds of wild moose could be introduced to help control the hydrilla but you can't force a 2,000 lb moose to stay exclusively in the water and feed on hydrilla... especially if the hydrilla isn't tasty to them.

Lies in the headline alone:

1) This isn’t Democrats. This is the Army Corps of Engineers, currently run by Donald Trump. The project progressed through the Biden years, but was initiated during the Trump years.

2) There are certainly no plans to go nationwide. It’s being used on an invasive plant that is identified as a crisis in Connecticut, and would be limited to the Connecticut River. This part of the Connecticut is brackish, and unfit for drinking water.

3) If the use of diquat is toxic, it’s the Republican government of Texas which has already used it on a larger scale. To be clear, diquat is toxic if directly ingested, but we’re not talking about ingesting it; as noted, the Connecticut is not a

Mechanical removal is used but is impractical for large scale hydrilla removal.

Hydrilla good!
Spraying it bad!

Hydrilla is solely responsible for filtering and cleaning up the Potomac River in the 1990s...

Hydrilla bad for sailing boats...
Hydrilla excellent for bass boats...

CT should spray everything except the waterways...
Spraying communists is good...

Initially, it does appearr to be beneficial.

It will clean up cloudy, murky water to crystal clarity at which point diminishing returns set in to where it completely takes over and turns a water body into a dense saturated sponge of vegetative mass

DDT in and of itself was great. A real wonder insecticide if used as directed. The problem was, it was massively overused. And I get that. Farmers were dusting crops with it.

DDT should have been regulated, not banned. Millions of people HAVE died from banning of it.

The banning of DDT (which was spectacularly suited to combat the Anopheles Mosquito that was the prime vector for spreading Malaria) resulted in millions of people dying of the preventable disease.

By the time DDT was banned, worldwide cases of Malaria recorded annually dropped from about 350 million cases to 100 million, with a commensurate decrease in malaria deaths.

Of all the things the Left has done, the Banning of DDT ranks high.
