Waste of time and money. If it were me id get rid of a chunk of the FBI and make do with the existing building.
This is like just across the street.
My son works in this building, it is a decaying, hazardous mess. There are hallways & areas blocked off because of wall & ceiling collapses with asbestos contamination.
I find it an extremely ugly building. I understand the point of Brutalism, but there’s an imbalance and a looming creepiness here. Tearing it down and replacing it with something ... anything ... or even nothing will be a much-needed improvement.
” selected the Ronald Reagan Building, blocks away from the Hoover building, as the new location. It was home to the U.S. Agency for International Development until this year, “
Epic troll... Home Run! lol
FBI should be dead and gone too.
A museum to corruption and bureaucracy? Cover-ups and the undermining of the Constitution?
“asbestos contamination”
If so that changes everything. Hard to remove asbestos and may need to raze the existing building.
After watching the USC-Notre Dame game in 2001, we headed back to Chicago to catch a plane home. On the way, we passed by Gary, Ind. I wanted to keep going, but my friend, having heard the song that praises Gary in "The Music Man," insisted on driving through it, so I did so, against my better judgment.
Gary makes Anacostia, DC or Watts, Calif. look like Beverly Hills, Calif. or Scarsdale, NY. We passed by a big man in a gold suit standing in front of a church, and my friend insisted that we stop and take his picture. I did, but I kept the motor running, and when he took his picture, I hightailed it back to the main highway.
There’s a nice place near Miami, an old airport with lots of room.
Structural problems....wow
Where were the building inspectors and who were the architects?

Great suggestion and close to the client base.
I would BET they will TRY TO BUG IT!! Especially Kash and Bongino’s offices!!
I’d like to know the buildings maintenance record and funding. Often times when a government entity wants a new building they intentionally underfund regular maintenance so they can claim “it will cost more to fix instead of building new”
I’ve seen this with school bond issues. Claims of we can’t fix this building... and as soon as they get a new building the old is used as storage or additional office space.
Instead of saving taxpayer money, structural cost have then doubled.
...and all the secret file storage places will be revealed....oh look, seth rich laptop.....oh look Dennis Montgomery harddrives.....oh look more jfk evidence....
What is the purpose of Brutalism?
Evidently this building has been falling apart for well over 20 years. Some of the excuses for moving are:
1. The building is not easily reconfigurable.
2. Would cause workforce disruptions while renovating.
3. Concrete is falling off the building and in the parking garage.
4. Flooding in the basement and so forth..
A neighbor fellow in my old ‘hood was a Union Cement Finisher his entire working life. He worked on the 495 Beltway, The Kennedy Center, the DC Metro, the FBI Building, and La’enfant Plaza... then he died at 62. One of the hardest working men I ever knew. He had the nicest patio and driveway on the street...
The purpose of Brutalism—an architectural style that emerged in the mid-20th century—is both practical and ideological. Here’s a breakdown of its core purposes:
🧱 1. Functional Honesty
Expose the structure: Brutalism emphasizes showing the building’s skeleton (e.g., concrete, steel, ventilation systems) rather than hiding it behind decoration.
“What you see is what you get”: It’s meant to reflect truth in materials and design, rejecting ornamentation as dishonest or unnecessary.
🏛 2. Social Ideals
Brutalism was often used for public housing, universities, and civic buildings, especially after WWII.
The goal: serve the masses, not the elite—symbolizing egalitarianism, efficiency, and modern progress.
It was especially influential in socialist or welfare-state contexts.
🏗 3. Affordability and Speed
Concrete was cheap, strong, and could be poured into forms quickly.
It allowed for modular, repeatable designs—ideal for rebuilding cities and infrastructure after war or during urban growth.
🎨 4. Aesthetic Statement
The raw, dramatic, imposing look was deliberate.
Brutalism aimed to provoke emotion—often awe or even discomfort—challenging traditional ideas of beauty.
🧠 5. Rejection of Elitism and Historical Styles
It distanced itself from classical, ornate, or revivalist styles of earlier centuries.
It aligned with modernist ideals: clean lines, utility, innovation.
Origins of the Name
From the French phrase “béton brut”—“raw concrete”—used by architect Le Corbusier.
Not about being “brutal” in feeling (though many people interpret it that way now).
Summary:
> Brutalism’s purpose was to be honest, democratic, practical, and expressive of modern values—even if it meant being stark, rough, or controversial.
