He should have negotiated use of their ports for our Navy just to blow the minds of the CHICOM military

See above - we can’t smelt lead for lead acid (car) batteries. We can’t make some kinds of computer chips because the manufacture process has hazardous chemicals and the EPA won’t allow it even if properly controlled and fully automated. True hexavalent chrome plating is banned in parts the US due to the toxic chemicals involved. Glock initially could not manufacture firearms in the US because their Tenifer finish, while non-toxic after manufacture, involved chemicals that are barred by law from being used in the US for manufacturing purposes. There’s no shortage of industrial processes that cannot be run in the US despite modern safety measures and emissions controls.

Nice market. 100 million people.

When a market is opened up, we will seek ways to enter it. We aren't going to make huge inroads to Vietnam in the short term, but we'll sell more than today. Vietnam is the 6th or 7th largest importer to the US, and growing as manufacturers leave China. A 20% tariff on those goods will bring in some money to the treasury, and possibly allow some US companies to compete for a piece of that business.

Yes, and they admit it - but they’re also working on the problem, unlike in LA/SF. Additionally, the percentage is reportedly *far* lower and you generally do not see them on the streets. Check out this Reddit post of a (presumedly) American asking the Vietnamese where all the homeless people are:

“They’re getting to the point where they’re almost Communist In Name Only.”

They already are!

I talked to a taxi driver last year and he was eager to talk about that. He said they wear the clothes of communism but deep down inside they’re avid capitalists.

In downtown Hanoi they had stores like Prada, Gucci, Vuitton and other top fashion brands.

It was a real eye opening trip. I totally recommend it. And there is a place called Ha Long bay that is truly beautiful.

It continues to make me wonder what would have happened if the State Department hadn’t been their blind Francophile selves and told Ho Chih Minh to screw off and go back to accepting the French as his overlords when he came to us as a WW2 ally that fought the Japanese alongside us but instead told France that no, they couldn’t have Indochina back.

"100 million poor people. What are they going to buy?"

Like any third-world nation looking to keep pace, machine tools, aircraft, trucks, and food.

Things they WON'T be buying from red China.

The MAGA mercantilists who think that exports are good and imports are bad don’t understand that this deal will actually help Vietnamese consumers — by increasing the merchandise that they receive from us in relation to the merchandise that they send to us.

No, it wouldn’t be better. That would be a dodge. You cannot give globalists an inch. They are state-less beigs that CANNOT BE TRUSTED.

MAKE.IT.ALL.HERE. No exceptions. Globalists had their way for 30 years, so now nationalists get to drive.

MAKE.IT.ALL.HERE. No exceptions.

I agree we should. But I also believe the leverage we have in trade is a very powerful tool for our nation.
