The Senate has advanced President Trump’s Big, Beautiful Bill to a full debate despite two GOP defections after hours of drama.
The final tally was 51-49. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Thom Tillis of North Carolina were the two Republican nays.
Ron Johnson of Wisconsin initially voted no but switched to yes.
Vice President JD Vance arrived at the Capitol earlier to potentially cast a tie-breaking vote.

The GOP holds a 53-47 majority in the Senate. With Tillis and Paul voting no, Republicans needed to hope that Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska voted to proceed with the debate.
This was a bit of a gamble since these are the two most notorious RINOs in all of Congress. With that in mind, the GOP gave a little gift to Murkowski: a special tax cut for Alaskan whaling captains, which would benefit subsistence hunters.
Fortunately, both came through, though Murkowski helped drag the process out by over an hour.
But then Senators Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, Senator Rick Scott of Florida, and Senator Mike Lee of Utah held the vote up for two more hours. Finally, they were able to cut a deal.
Johnson then flipped his vote to yes.

P
Crooks, almost all of them.
I’ll oppose him if there is a primary.
His shit gives hope to slime balls like Cooper.
Oh wait, that's right. He has always been an assistant Democrat.
A question for any parliamentarian experts out there: Could a conference committee restore any of the provisions that the Senate parliamentarian ruled against? And if so, would this conference report be subject to the Senate filibuster?
Business as usual.
Congress is certainly NOT about voter representation.
Thune needs to show that the lame, Long TDS infected,’Rat Hack, Senate “parliamentarian” the door.
Thune doesn’t seem to be in charge.
McConnell still seems to be in charge.
Enough of that already.
Just to be clear, this vote is not final passage of the bill by the Senate but just a vote to move it out of committee and to the floor where it will be voted on.
People wonder why Murkowski and her ilk keep getting re-elected. It's because, in the end, they always manage to deliver the pork.
Yep, the UniParty continues to Party On.
I’ve had more than enough.
All that just to get a full debate on the bill.
Best to be aware . . . it is likely the only thing that is going to allow this bill to pass is 3 Dem House members died and their special election in D+10 districts is Sept/Nov.
Those 3 votes would make the House almost unwinnable
But beyond all that, the thing to be aware of is this bill does nothing other than JUST ONE THING.
It raises the debt ceiling.
All the other stuff can be reversed at any time and probably will be.
Thanks goodness for dead democrats ! (of natural causes)
Does this say the BBB will move to the House floor or, does it move to the Senate floor?
Yep, just in time to leave for the 4th of July pig out. 🍔🥩
They took out the legislation on suppressors and SBRs.
The vote to advance rarely contradicts the final. Musk has a point but there are maybe 16-20 conservative Senators. It is that reality that dictates what crumbs we get.
The Big Fat Porky bill.
