The agency is working with the ATF general counsel to cut upwards of 50 regulations as the administration drastically reduces the number of inspectors.
The U.S. DOGE Service has sent staff to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with the goal of revising or eliminating dozens of rules and gun restrictions by July 4, according to multiple people with knowledge of the efforts, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss plans that have not been made public.
The initial target was to change 47 regulations, an apparent reference to Donald Trump’s status as the 47th president of the United States, two of the people said. But ATF and DOGE staffers are now poised to exceed that goal, with upward of 50 changes planned.
The revisions are part of a seismic shift unfolding at ATF as the Trump administration proposes slashing the law enforcement agency’s budget and dramatically reducing the number of inspectors who ensure that gun sellers are in compliance with federal laws. Some Republicans in Congress have called for abolishing the agency altogether, and Attorney General Pam Bondi has said she wants to merge ATF with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
If the plans are enacted, it would be a major win for pro-gun advocacy groups, who have long claimed ATF is an agency with too many gun regulations that tramples on Second Amendment rights. Gun-control advocates fear that the changes afoot at ATF will more easily allow potentially dangerous people to obtain weapons with little recourse.
The exact scope and details of the potential changes are still being determined. ATF has hundreds of regulations, and revisions could include changing the responsibilities of certain ATF positions, updating what types of firearms can be imported, and making licensing fees refundable.

They are supposed to address the red tape with suppressors at some point.
Sounds great but it’s a bit late for those murdered by F Troop. Speaking of that I hope the doge folks make it out alive.
Or integrating their databases with the rest of the developing national database platform?
That, and they need to repeal what Reagan did, viz. made it impossible for John Q. Citizen to own a full auto firearm. He had no right to do that.
Reagan signed legislation passed by both houses of Congress ...
Trump’s got 47 Going On!

‘Don’t Stop Him He’s on A Roll !”
How about a return to the Pre-1968 gun laws. Maybe even earlier!
Too many guns? You should have seen America before the 1968 gun control act was passed.
Guns were available at gas stations, liquor stores, hardware stores, sporting goods stores, clothing stores, book stores, record stores, grocery stores, Saddle shops, bus stations.
Cash and carry. No waiting period, no paperwork, no background checks. Just look old enough.
OR, you could chose one from the back of a hunting magazine, drop a check in the mail and it would be shipped right to your door. You could even order fully functional anti-tank rifles and ammo same way or a demilled full auto machine gun! After all, the weapons were bought by the government with US Taxpayer’s money so the items should be returned to the Tax Payers!
Yet the murder rate was very low back then and road rage was unheard of.
I bought my first rifle back in 1964 at a combo sporting goods store/gas station. I was 14 and walked in with my Dad pointed to the rifle I wanted, paid for it with my paper route money, I recall the Ithica .22 was around $24, and then walked out of the store with my Dad the rifle in my arms.
I wanna be able to buy an M134 out of a vending machine
Pre ‘33 or bust!
empty the office and padlock the door.
end of problem!
State deal there, gotta pay the tax but you own them in many states.
Thanks to Reagan, that gun is selling ~ $17,000 now. The average man cannot afford a machine gun, tax or no tax. I always figured Reagan had a full auto collection and wanted a return on his investment.
Thats All they have is FEAR trying to scare people into believing the LIES THEY SPEW !!!
WRONG!
Look at the video, the House did NOT pass the voice vote for the McCLure/Volkmer Act. We were railroaded. Reagan passed an illegal law.
