This is a raid, not a war, where some amount of land is usually at stake. For Iran, it’s a campaign in a several decade war at the end of which it hopes to kill every last Jew in Israel. For Israel, it’s yet another raid to swat the current threat, an outgrowth of Islamic eschatology. Muslims believe a Final Solution to the Jewish question is necessary for the world to end. This is literally why Muslims have such an affinity for Nazism - the two creeds are fellow travelers in this regard.

The biggest risk I see from us bombing Fordow is Iran responding by unleashing sleeper cells here in America. I don’t really know how big of a threat that actually is, but 4 years of open borders certainly didn’t help. That risk aside, I don’t see a lot of down side for the U.S. from taking out Fordow if need be. Israel has revealed Iran to be, in large part, a paper tiger, and their ability to project military strength has been seriously degraded by them.

As far as Trump waiting to make his decision, there’s a lot going on behind the scenes, about which we don’t know, so it’s hard to say for sure what his reasoning is. It’s possible Iranian opposition is being organized to take advantage of the damage being inflicted on the Iranian regime. Perhaps we’re waiting for those efforts to reach a critical mass before unleashing the final offensive. Also letting Israel do as much as they can first has its advantages. There is also the diplomatic message Trump is sending to the world by giving Iran the opportunity to end the war with a negotiated settlement. It could be all these reasons and others I haven’t thought of.

I never even said where they were GOING. I said they were taken away after the Houthis were thought to be no longer an active threat. To “Missouri.”

Now they are going to Guam after several refueling visits en route in the air as they head for Iran and to probably hit Iran with bunker busting bombs. Which is the reason for taking off with a light load of fuel due to the 2 —15,000 pound bombs each carries.

If it’s just a few bombs, there’s no need. If Trump intends on a big air campaign, of hundreds of sorties a day, two weeks isn’t a long time to build up a force able to get the job done. Desert Storm featured 3000 sorties a day for 30 days. That meant close to 3K fighter/bomber aircraft in the region, since every plane can do one sortie a day, on average. That buildup took almost half a year, included 6 carriers.

There IS a way for Israel to take out the mountain with 3 planes and 3 of the smaller, 15000 pound bombs.

It’s tricky and the bombs are dropped very close to each other..but it is a plan that they have drawn up just in case.
