Two RAF logistics jets were damaged at one of Britain’s most theoretically secure airfields overnight into Friday by Palestinian Action activists who were able to escape undetected. In 1978 overseas, I was friends with a couple of RAF Surveyors. In a casual conversation we talked about secure facilities. They were not even supposed to acknowledge they were on our base with their mission of investigating Soviet satellite signals. John pointed out that they had a different protocol about security. He said that they are not as inclined to protecting secure material, but they made sure they apprehended someone attempting to steal classified material.
So much with that. I always thought that was a little hairbrained.

So do I. They breed a lot once they are in your country. That said, the place is full of muslims and the brits are going to be ruled by them.

My battery (Chaparral/Vulcan) was about 5 miles from a Nike-Hercules battery. Whenever they had a Nuclear Surety Inspection, I was tangentially involved as a reserve force commander. The outbriefings were always attended by the chain of command, but including the Deputy CG of 32nd AADCOM. Should that battery fail its inspection, the General was there to relieve the entire chain of command, to include the Battalion and Group Commanders.
The pucker factor was pervasive. Several fond memories of the 6 NSIs I was involved with. I’m proudest of the fact we never had a live round discharged or incurred any injuries while performing our mission. My soldiers performed exceptionally well, considering the lack of infantry training they received. My guys were Air Defenders, not infantry.

Military commanders are always grinning in their photos. They used to look serious or almost grim. Look at photos of general Lemay, admirals Halsey, Nimitz, or King. Look at Arthur Harris and Hugh Dowding.
Now we get these people grinning like they are simple minded.

“The air base is a legally protected place in British law and is heavily guarded,”
Ha ha, that’s the Brits for you.

I think we can conclude that it isn’t heavily guarded in reality.

Yeah, maybe. Rape our girls, that’s OK, but mess with our plane? That could be a problem.
