Putin said that Israel had given Moscow assurances that Russian specialists helping to build two more reactors at the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran would not be hurt in air strikes... Asked if Russia was ready to provide Iran with modern weapons to defend itself against Israeli strikes, Putin said a strategic partnership treaty signed with Tehran in January did not envisage military cooperation and that Iran had not made any formal request for assistance.

Putin has no choice in this matter. He completely understands what the Israelis just did, especially in the first 2 - 3 hours of this conflict.

Of course not. When Putin kills a rival leader, he knows better than to discuss it.

I wouldn’t put it past Mossad to have in-country contacts with the opposition - who are provided encrypted radio handsets that look like cell phones - and having coordinated intel so that the opposition gets ‘credit’ for taking him out.

i.e., permitting a lull in bombing so he can flee to an airport and a small, custom drone attaches to the fuselage of his aircraft for an airborne coup de grâce.

[tin hat off]

No.

Reuters, as usual, is misleading us. Fancy that. Putin was asked about the possibility of Khamenei's assassination at a meeting with the heads of the world's leading news agencies organized by TASS. The overall tenor of his remarks was that the question did not deserve a response and he would not dignify the question by providing one. IOW, he is adamantly opposed to the removal of Khamenei.

What's more surprising is Trump's apparent flirtation with the idea since he, himself, came within about one quarter of an inch of being offed by an assassin, who unfortunately, was American and not Iranian.

Not surprising at all - Iran was behind other assassination attempts against Trump.

I was struck by that also. Must not be a believer in the Golden Rule or Karma.

Putin has no choice in this matter.

Putin always has a choice. Putin made a choice.

It is not in the best interest of Russia to have Iran armed with nuclear weapons.

I would not be surprised to discover that Russia delivered targeting information to Israel regarding the Iranian nuclear weapons program. And Israel made a deal to avoid striking areas where the Russian engineers were working.

But that is all speculation, of course.

Best case scenario is for the Iranian people to get rid of that SOB once and for all and become a decent nation.

I wish the folks on FR who cheer when little Gazan children are dismembered shared a fraction of that humility.

All you IRAN FIRSTERS who want to spare the death-to-America leadership and country.

And the antisemites say that (((we))) are the traitors -- hrumph.

Mad TV: "Death to America"!
