Sir Keir Starmer’s grooming gang inquiry does not go far enough, victims and campaigners said on Tuesday.
Four people affected by the rape gangs scandal joined Kemi Badenoch, the Conservative leader, as she held a press conference in central London.
It comes after Sir Keir bowed to pressure to commission a national inquiry into the historic sexual exploitation of thousands of girls, predominantly by men of Pakistani origin.
The Prime Minister’s commitment followed a report by Baroness Casey which found that police and council leaders covered up the scale of Asian grooming gangs because they feared being called racist.
Marlon West, whose daughter Scarlett is a grooming gang survivor, said he was worried some prosecutions would be missed and that he was not reassured “one little bit” social workers would be held accountable.
“Scarlett was groomed from 14 to 18,” he said. “From 16 to 18 was possibly the worst time, when she was being really trafficked from around the country.
“So from around 16 to 18, does that not matter? There’s not going to be any prosecutions about that? Because what people don’t understand is it might start off with one groomer by the end of it it’s a completely different grooming gang. I guess they sell them on to other gangs so that really concerns me.”

OK, the parents need to take ownership here too, and protect and teach their children to resist these predators. You don’t need to “be nice.” If someone who is a stranger wants to talk to you on the street or online, ignore them, run, report them, don’t make friends with them. Only interact with people your parents approve of. Get real people.
