Careful what you wish for. If you eliminate the property tax, an income tax will have to replace it. Do you really, really, really want that?

There was a property tax reduction that did get passed.

I’m sorry for all of my fellow Texans because you will never have low property taxes in Texas.

You don’t have the power like Commiefornia does to allow citizens collect signatures and put it on the ballot to reform the outrageous tax rate.

I have a second Cousin Texas government employee that works in the tax office. I don’t like him. He is giddy to collect 2.5% property taxes from his fellow Texans!

All of these seem useless like our state congressman. Why are the few recognizing all these Muslims.

You have a ring-side seat for the Collapse of Western Civilization.

“He is giddy to collect 2.5% property taxes from his fellow Texans!”

When I lived in NJ, my property taxes on a 3,000 square foot home on a half acre of land was $15,000 a year. I bought a house with the same square feel and lot size in San Antonio in the Stone Oak section and my property taxes went from 15,000 a year to $5,500 a year.

Please! Tell us what the state or local government does for you that’s worth 5500 bucks a year.

The 5K per year will be 10K per year in 5 years because that is what they do...

In CA the law says no more than 2% increase per year and that is too much.

Property taxes should be illegal. Why should we have to pay every year for what we already paid for?

Isn't renting your home from the government swell?

Careful what you wish for

Oh, do you really want to go there?

What was passed was a joke. They increase the homestead exemption (which applies to only a small part of the property) and then the local tax assessor jacks up the value so we end up with a bigger tax bill anyway.

There will be no tax relief because the counties need their dollars and property owners are the only (primary anyway) source.

You're right that an income tax would suck, but renting my farm from the government sucks just as much. More so, because fixed income. We need a change, not Band-Aids.

Mine are higher here in Illinois plus a state income tax.

They should add a percent or two to non food items in sales tax. That way everyone gets to pay a little instead of just the few who work to own their own property. I fight with them every year here in Texas to get my property tax lowered a little. Sometimes, I get a little relief, sometimes not. But I think if enough of us protest our taxes every year, and demand a meeting with them, not just a phone call, we might get some change.

Pays for police, fire departments and emergency medical services. Keeps our roads from going to crap. Funds school teachers and maintenance. After school programs and a few other projects.

Is it worth it? EMT got to me fast enough to keep me alive until I got to the hospital. Yeah, that was worth 5500.
