ICE shows up in Irvine, and a councilmember encourages undocumented people to stay home

An Irvine city councilmember in an Instagram post encouraged undocumented people to stay home on Thursday, June 12, after learning that Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers would be in the city throughout the day.

Later, about 200 people gathered by Angel Stadium to protest ICE activities in Orange County and elsewhere. As the Anaheim demonstration grew, some people climbed street poles to wave Mexican flags and around a dozen others stood in the middle of the street as cars drove by.

Eventually, the protest turned into dancing in the streets, and then someone lit a firecracker, and at about 8 p.m., police declared an unlawful assembly.

In her Instagram post earlier, Irvine City Councilmember Kathleen Treseder wrote, “We have been informed that immigration agents will be in eight to 10 locations in Irvine today. Orchard Hills being one of them. If you are concerned about your status, please stay home.”

Walking down the street, Jesus Lopez, 26 of Irvine, said it was an overwhelming moment.

It was his first protest.

“There’s a lot of people that I know that are undocumented and don’t deserve to be deported,” Lopez said. “There’s nothing that makes me different from them. There’s no reason to deport them because they were born somewhere else and haven’t done anything wrong.”

If they’re in Irvine, ICE is looking for illegal aliens from Asia.

There’s a lot of people that I know that are undocumented and don’t deserve to be deported,” Lopez said.

If they came here illegally they do deserve to be deported. They can make a case for themselves, and apply for citizenship, but they broke our laws coming here.

Further, American citizens who have worked hard and played by the rules deserve to be first in line when it comes to American jobs, AND they deserve to have their vote count and not be negated by someone who isn't a citizen. If it's unfair to US citizens, then it can't be allowed to stand. It's that simple.

“Undocumented”?

No foreign driver’s license? No passport? No Matricula Consular card? How do these people send their remittances back home? Of course they are documented.

One problem is that the formerly conservative areas south and east of Los Angeles are at best purple. Orange, San Diego, San Bernardino, and Riverside Counties were once conservative, with Reagan and the older Bush receiving 15 plus percentage point margins. What happened is that the “little old ladies in tennis shoes” that were decried by 1960s folk singers died off, as did the World War II and Korean vets, some of the children and grandchildren of the old Goldwater and Reagan voters were brainwashed into liberal ideology through public education and popular culture, and many of those who escaped the brainwashing have left the state. Throw in large scale Hispanic and Asian settlement in these counties and you have the present political situation.

If California directly defies the Feds and secedes, the main areas that may be held by American loyalists (U.S. military and local patriots) are the Central Valley and far northern California away from the immediate coast. The rest of the state is lost.

This does seem to be the only viable solution. Make the circumstances such that self-deportation is the best and only option.
