Israel has launched what it called “preemptive strikes” against Iran and a state of emergency has been declared in Israel, according to the country’s Defense Minister Israel Katz. “Following the State of Israel’s preemptive strike against Iran, a missile and drone attack against the State of Israel and its civilian population is expected in the immediate future” Katz said in a statement. Iranian state media outlet IRNA reported repeated explosions could be heard in Tehran.

So when the Iranians go to dig out their sites in a week, A few weeks, they have to bomb all over again? How long will they have to keep that up?

“Wouldn’t that require repeated strikes over time? Going back to bomb every time they came back to dig them out? How long would that have to go on?”
Yep, and as many bombing runs that it takes. The alternative? One F35 can carry multiple 2000 pound bombs. If they are well placed one plane might be all they need periodically to keep Iran nuclear sites in the Stone age.

If reports are true, this appears to have been a near perfect decapitation strike by Israel against Iran’s Armed Forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). I don’t think they know what to do right now.

IDF chief: We reached point of no return, we have no choice

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir says the military launched its attack on Iran’s nuclear program and military “because the time had come; we’d reached the point of no return.”
“We cannot wait for another time to act, we have no choice,” he says in remarks published by the IDF.
“History, both distant and recent, has taught us that in the face of ambitions to destroy us, we must not bow our heads, and so we fight to preserve our existence. Freedom is granted to those who are willing to fight for it,” he adds.

An unnamed defense official tells Army Radio: “The opening strike included air defense targets, [strikes on] surface-to-surface missiles, and a wide wave of senior Iranian officials being neutralized, timed with great precision — simultaneously hitting the Iranian General Staff and nuclear scientists across Iran.”
He adds: “If this opening strike succeeded — then what we did to senior Hezbollah officials over 10 days — we did to Iran in 10 minutes.”
Mostly peaceful air strikes.

Israel is at a “decisive point” in its history, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says in a video address.
“Our brave pilots are attacking a large number of targets across Iran,” he says.
The goal of the operation, says Netanyahu, is “to strike Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, Iran’s ballistic missile factories, and Iran’s military capabilities.”
The operation will continue as long as is needed, he says, until the mission is completed.
He warns that Iran “has significant capabilities to harm us.”
“We prepared for that as well,” he says.
Netanyahu asks the public to cooperate with instructions from the Home Front Command, which save lives.
He emphasizes that Iran has enriched enough uranium for nine nuclear bombs, and says that in recent months it took unprecedented steps toward weaponization.
“These steps moved Iran closer to achieving a nuclear weapons within a short amount of time,” he says.
Iran has also built “a massive store” of ballistic missiles, he continues. “These missiles reach Israel from Iran within minutes. Each one carries a ton of explosives.”
Iran planned to produce 20,000 such missiles within six years, he says.
“Therefore we are operating to remove [them] as well,” Netanyahu says.
“We can’t leave these threats for the next generation,” he continues. “Because if we don’t act now, there will not be another generation. If we don’t act now, we simply won’t be here.”
“‘Never Again’ is now,” he says, using the cry that emerged from the Holocaust.
“We have internalized the lessons of history,” he says. “When an enemy says he intends to destroy you — believe him. When the enemy develops the capabilities to destroy you — stop him.”
Yes that is true but I also believe they made sure the strikes in Teheran were pinpoint for each member of the head shed. The longer Iran goes without a response will be a gauge on the effectiveness of the operations over the last three hours.
IDF in formal statement: Israel has launched attack to damage Iran’s nuclear program

The IDF in an official statement says that it has launched a “precise, preemptive strike” in Iran, “with the goal of damaging Iran’s nuclear program and in response to the Iranian regime’s ongoing aggression against Israel.”
“Dozens of Israeli Air Force aircraft recently completed the opening blow, which included strikes on dozens of military targets, including nuclear-related sites in various areas in Iran,” the IDF says.
“The public is requested to follow the instructions of the IDF Home Front Command, which will be updated as necessary, and act calmly and responsibly. The IDF and the relevant authorities are prepared for a wide range of scenarios in defense and offense that may be needed,” the military says.
The IDF statement continues: “For years, the Iranian regime has been waging a direct and indirect campaign of terror against the State of Israel, by funding and directing terrorist activities via its proxies across the Middle East, while advancing toward obtaining a nuclear weapon. The Iranian regime is at the head of the axis responsible for all terrorist attacks against the State of Israel since the beginning of the war.”
“The Iranian regime has proclaimed that its objective is to destroy the State of Israel. Senior officials in the Iranian regime have publicly declared their intent to destroy Israel, and are operating to achieve this together with their proxies in the Middle East. Today, Iran is closer than ever to obtaining a nuclear weapon. Weapons of mass destruction in the hands of the Iranian regime are an existential threat to the State of Israel and a significant threat to the wider world. The State of Israel will not allow a regime whose objective is to destroy the State of Israel to obtain weapons of mass destruction,” the IDF says.
“The IDF has conducted a process of preparations for a campaign on the frontline and on the home front. The resilience of Israel’s citizens will be an important factor of the campaign. The IDF is ready to continue to act as required. The State of Israel has the obligation to act in defense of its citizens and will continue to do so everywhere it is required to do so, as we have done in the past. The IDF is conducting an ongoing situational assessment and will update on any developments,” it adds.
