The Morning Briefing: None of This Is Playing Out the Way Gavin Newsom Thinks It Is

Life under Jerry Brown wasn't quite as bad, but the state had already become a Dem-run toilet. .. Los Angeles had a Republican mayor, and the state was in the midst of a 16-year run of Republican governors. But that was the 20th century. Good times.

By the time I left, Kamala Harris was my new senator, and it was obvious that Newsom would be on his way to the governor's office. Oh, and Karen Bass was my representative in Congress. Yay me.

California has been in a bit of a doom spiral since then. Its economy gets a built-in boost from Silicon Valley and what's left of the Entertainment Industry there, but the Democrat supermajority in Sacramento and Newsom are managing to you-know-what that away.

In the alternate, non-reality universe that the Democrats live in, Newsom has been one of its golden boys. Remember, just a year ago at this time, there was a lot of chatter about Newsom replacing the obviously dementia-ridden Joe Biden at the top of the Democrat ticket....

The reason that Newsom wasn't going to be the nominee last year is the same one that is making him fight so hard to be the Dems' whacko Great White Hope during the riots now: he doesn't check off any diversity boxes for the party that's all in on it. Unless he's ready to switch teams and shack up with Mayor Pete, Newsom needs some way to distinguish himself.

...

Newsom is trying to get President Trump to make him a political martyr over the riots in Los Angeles. He figures that will put him back at the front of the Dem pack for 2028.

I lived in Orange County in the late 80s. Landing at John Wayne and seeing his bronze statue in the airport coupled with trips to SD watching the Marines drill on the shores of the Pacific on the way to see my sister along “the 5” made one feel this was the land of the free and home of the brave. I visited with my young family back in ‘07 and when we went to LA my wife was struck by the increased congestion and lack of English speakers. I’ll never go back.

Newsome made a critical error when he believed taking the leftist Democrat echo chamber on a speaking tour in front of the cameras would be a good idea.

Good luck on that one, Mr. Newsom. It’s obvious to most of us by now just what you are. Will you get re-elected as governor? Since it is California, who knows? Would you be nominated for president if you ran for that office? I surely & sincerely hope not. As a former resident of california when it used to be a good place to live...glad to the utmost I live elsewhere now.

Gavin Newom is completely out of touch - although from his new $9M dollar home he believes he represents the “will of the people” by siding with violent criminals, looters, rioters and illegals.

Even after all of his hypocrisy, lying and gas over $4.00/gallon, he beat a recall.

The good news is that he is exposing himself as the fool and charlatan that he is - which won’t play well in flyover country (which he has utter contempt for) when he tries to run for president in 2028.

Will you get re-elected as governor?

He can't. He's term-limited out.

I dont remember Jerry Brown from 2011 to 2019. I’ve heard of him, yes. But I don’t remember hearing much about him. So to me, it appeared that he was a competent administrator (for California).
