President Donald Trump earlier sent some 2,000 National Guardsmen to the riot-racked city over the weekend
A battalion of 500 U.S. Marines are mobilizing to Los Angeles to respond to anti-immigration enforcement riots, Fox News has learned.
The Marines will be tasked with protecting federal property and federal personnel, according to a senior defense official, and the deployment is open-ended.
The Marines will not be carrying out a law enforcement role, but it’s unclear what their use of force rules are if protesters throw things or spit at them.
The new deployment comes after President Donald Trump sent some 2,000 National Guardsmen to the riot-racked city over the weekend.
The Marines are from the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines at Twentynine Palms, California.
Moments before the deployment, Trump expressed optimism that the situation in Los Angeles is improving.
"I mean, I think we have it very well under control," he told reporters. "I think it would have been a very bad situation. It was heading in the wrong direction. It's now heading in the right direction."
The Marine mobilization is sure to draw outcry from liberal critics: California Gov. Gavin Newsom filed suit against the Trump administration on Monday for deploying the Guard.
The governor’s office both downplayed the troop movement and called it "completely uncalled for."
"From our understanding, this is moving Marines from one base to another base. At this time, the information we have is that Marines are not being deployed (there is a difference between that and being mobilized). The level of escalation is completely unwarranted, uncalled for, and unprecedented — mobilizing the best in class branch of the U.S. military against its own citizens," Newsom’s press office wrote on X.

It's FAFO time!
A large part of the problem is that many of these rioters are not our own citizens, but rather citizens of another country here illegally.
Bingo. Illegal invaders.
“ A large part of the problem is that many of these rioters are not our own citizens”
In LA the core are trust fund revolutionaries.
Agreed. As for those who (for now) are citizens, aren't the Marines duty-bound by the Constitution to protect this country against "all enemies, foreign AND domestic"? And what else are insurrectionists if they're not "domestic enemies"?
Oorah Marines. Semper Fi.
Open up some whup ass on the sum botches.
Or just:
Ship them out of our country
Mayor Bass is never going to allow LAPD or CHiPS to confront or arrest rioters with a great enough show of force to deter them from engaging in large-scale violence and arson.
The marines in this battalion that’s deploying to LA for whatever their mission will be, whatever they’re being asked to do, will need sufficient freedom-of-action to protect themselves, during that mission, from violent rioters, who will not fear arrest.
This seems like a recipe for disaster, frankly. Individual marines will not relish the potential for direct fighting on the streets with rioters while local law enforcement hides in the nearby Dunkin’.
“Anti-ICE riots”? How about Newsom/Bass Riots.
I didn’t think it was even possible, but California democrats (and actually democrats everywhere) — get more and more disgusting by the day!
Seems like marines deployed to LA will avoid large confrontations.
They’re going to need to be 100% on offense in small groups helping federal agents arrest perps based on judge-issued warrants.
Get in, get ‘em, get out, back in time for the chowline. Preferably after dark and with no media present until the main business is complete. Rinse, then repeat until LA is emptied of all known real baddie illegals.
“Individual marines will not relish the potential for direct fighting on the streets with rioters while local law enforcement hides in the nearby Dunkin’.”
Never met any grunts I see. LOL
Their morale is sky high right now, and they are itching for someone to challenge or try them. Things USMC Infantry loves; A street fight, being the heroes on a White Horse, Publicity, and having a chance to walk in and be the bad-asses.
Relish it? LOL, they were straining at the bit and wanting in BADLY when they saw the Guard being sent in.
They won’t be going on ICE raids in small groups. They will take control of any high value areas at risk. You won’t see anyone storming any more ICE buildings etc. They will be out in force and holding critical intersections and communications lines. You’ll stop seeing Border Patrol fleeing as crowds pelt them with rocks, crowds breaking into buildings, etc.
Just watch.
I hope that the rules to the Marines will be, shoot to kill if you are assaulted in any way. The slime should have the common sense not to assault a Marine. Assault should result in death.
My guess is that their presence will likely be enough to make it unnecessary for them to take an active role, but they absolutely will be ready to do so.if necessary.
Semper Fi, brother.
Time to crack some numbskulls.
“Things USMC Infantry loves; A street fight, being the heroes on a White Horse, Publicity, and having a chance to walk in and be the bad-asses.”
Damned straight.
Semper Fi.
L
Good. They’ll have a target-rich environment for their new Sigs. 😁
Shoot them first. They’re invaders. We defend other countries with gunfire, tank rounds, mortars and bombs, why not defend ourselves?
In general what you say seems right, but this is a domestic setting.
Does that not potentially change things?
This Guy is thinking the DOD lawyers are already hard at work filling their minds with new and interesting Rules of Engagement, and their hearts with dread at ending up being hung out to dry if they end up being the one Marine caught on video by a communist street thug doing something in an LA street the ACLU decides it doesn’t like.
