With regard to FR's viability, I'm not overly optimistic about the long-term, but not because of it being an old-style UI. More because of the deterioration of the quality of the conversations, and as you point out, the increasing use of pejorative language. But I am hopeful that in the short term we can improve things enough to keep 'er on the level, and see what can be done to get to a higher state of conversation.

FR is my first site in the morning and my last at night. I get more, and more relevant, news and opinion, as well as interesting tech/science articles, here than any other single site. Losing FR would be a major blow.

Completely agree. Since the Obama years, the presidential primaries up until 2020 were so contentious many really informed and articulate posters left the forum. The McCain, Romney and Trump primaries were absolutely brutal and the infighting was epic around here. The battle between supporters of Trump and Ted Cruz got to be ridiculous as I recall.

There was an exodus of some very knowledgeable and excellent writers. I knew a couple personally. They aren’t coming back. You probably know all this though.
