A very small number I’d say.

Of course.

It's worth noting that SNAP benefits are not designed to feed people. They're designed to subsidize Walmart, Target and the major U.S. grocery store chains. This is the strongest lobbying pressure that the GOP has to fight against when it tries to cut SNAP.

Exactly.

Because if you make something a “Right” that obligates someone to provide that “Right”.

If a house is a “Right”...that means someone has to provide it regardless of cost, regardless of who has to provide it.

If medical care is a “Right”...that means someone has to provide it regardless of cost, regardless of who has to provide it.

If a swimming pool is a “Right”...that means someone has to provide it regardless of cost, regardless of who has to provide it.

I was in western NC a few weeks ago. The devastation is still evident. Many people still can’t get to their homes unless they wade across the creeks and rivers.

But there is a LOT of recovery going on. I saw work crews from across the country. All this started in January for some reason.

10th Amendment enforcement time. States, not feds, should be this safety net. The big bureaucracy in the big DC ivory towers will never understand the problem and what solutions are needed as well as the folks on the ground do.

Stand in line at the grocery checkout and see the customer ahead of you paying for their groceries with a SNAP card while talking in a foreign language on the newest version IPhone.

Experts warn that the bill could lead to more children facing food insecurity just as research shows that work requirements don’t actually lead to a jump in employment but rather a drop in participants

Children facing food insecurity...only because their parents can’t be bothered to feed them even with SNAP benefits. This is why schools now provide free breakfasts and lunches to keep the kids fed. Some schools send home snacks for dinner and backpacks of food for the weekends. And free lunches for every human under 18 during the summer. During the Wuhan, schools’ first priority was sending busses around so kids didn’t starve with schools closed.

As for having to do nominal work for SNAP benefits, as the story says, ‘ain’t no one got time for that’.

A politician saying 'Folks' reminds me of a certain Austrian guy with a snappy uniform and a funny mustache who uttered the following catchphrase when speaking to his 'volk':

Ein Volk!
Ein Reich!
Ein Fuhrer!
