Another F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet from the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier has been lost in the Red Sea, the second jet lost from the carrier in just over a week, five people familiar with the matter told CNN.
It is not entirely clear what happened yet, as the investigation is ongoing, but two of the people said there was some kind of arrestment failure as the jet was trying to land on the carrier and the pilot and weapons systems officer had to eject. They were recovered by a rescue helicopter and are both alive, but they suffered minor injuries, one of the people said.
The jet crashed into the sea and has not been recovered, two of the people familiar with the incident said.
Separately, the Iran-backed Houthi rebel group “took a shot” at the Truman on Tuesday, four of the people said, despite President Donald Trump announcing an apparent ceasefire with the group hours earlier. It is not clear whether the two incidents are related.
The Office of the Secretary of Defense referred all questions about the incidents to the Navy and US Central Command. CNN has reached out to the Navy and CENTCOM for comment.
The loss of the fighter jet comes one week after another F/A-18 jet fell overboard the Truman. That time, initial reports indicated that the Truman made a hard turn to evade Houthi fire, which contributed to the fighter jet falling overboard.
An individual F/A-18 fighter jet costs more than $60 million, according to the Navy.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
I cannot help but wonder here whether we’re getting the full story. We’re the planes REALLY lost due to human error...or something else?
Serious question: How much does a fighter jet cost to maintain? I'm beginning to shift to the mindset of switching some of our aviation capability to much less expensive drones that can attack in swarms.
We don’t know the story yet on this one, but if you miss that wire on the deck it’s pretty much over.......your career, that is.................
You mean, like, shot down? Yeah I had the same thought. The globalists seem to be upending the chess board (upgraded from checkers after weekend at Bidens)
How many have been lost so far?
That is a damning thing. The Turman has lost a lot of air frames.
This one was supposedly a mechanical problem.............
Ping..................
“We don’t know the story yet on this one, but if you miss that wire on the deck it’s pretty much over.......your career, that is.................”
I take it you have never been on an aircraft carrier during Marine quality...
Look, folks, occasionally things such as a sock can be mysterious lost. Don’t worry about it. /sarc
“some kind of arrestment failure...”
If that’s the case it’s more than likely a maintenance issue.
Story we are getting via media is, jet did not slow down during approach, Pilot was rescued.
“This one was supposedly a mechanical problem.............”
Back in the day, I was in the shop when a call came in concerning one of the arresting gear.
One of the guys jumped up and said he knew what the problem was.
He grabbed a crescent hammer and I followed him.
We arrived at a limit switch and he proceeded to tap it with the wrench.
Problem solved.
The Engineer didn’t tell me the mess I was walking into when I came aboard.
But it was my choice and we all learned a lot.
Can’t park an Altima at Walmart,
what makes you think they can park a Jet on an Aircraft carrier?

“... arrestment failure.”
Is the Captain named Patel or Bondi?..............
Per AI:
“The current captain of the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) is Captain Christopher Hill. He is serving as the interim commanding officer after Captain Dave Snowden was relieved of duty due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command.”
The current captain may have inherited the problems.
“Story we are getting via media is, jet did not slow down during approach, Pilot was rescued.”
Source?
Not reported in several articles.
TWO were rescued.
Once is a rarity. Twice within a short period points to sabotage from within in on that ship. Suspects need to be keel hauled, and slowly.
“I cannot help but wonder here whether we’re getting the full story.”
I worked at a facility that supported the Navy Warfighter for over 30 years.....in that time, every now and then something would fall off of an aircraft flying in the area of the Naval Air Station and for some strange reason would usually land in someone’s yard.
The homeowner usually just called the base and report what happened and the Navy would send a couple of sailor’s to retrieve the gear.
To my recollection the local media never got wind of any of those incidents.....so to answer your question, no I doubt we ever get the full story on mishaps like this and really, should we?.....because if all the details are released the bad guys would know as well right?
