Musk: DOGE News on $334M in 'Improper' Payments a 'Big Deal'

Elon Musk on Tuesday praised a Treasury Department report detailing hundreds of millions of dollars in "improper payment requests" as a "big deal."

In a repost on X from the Department of Government Efficiency, it was stated that when the Treasury Department went "live with its first automated payment verification system," it reported identifying and rejecting $334 million in payment requests because of "missing budget codes, invalid budget codes (i.e., the payment was not linked to the budget), [and] budget codes with no authorization (i.e., the budget had already been fully spent)."

DOGE added that the Treasury Access Symbol is an identification code that links a payment to a budget line item.

"In the Federal Government, the TAS field was optional for ~$4.7 Trillion in payments and was often left blank, making traceability almost impossible," DOGE posted. "As of Saturday, this is now a required field, increasing insight into where money is actually going. Thanks to @USTreasury for the great work."

His comments come after DOGE reported uncovering nearly $1 billion in savings through cutting federal contracts and grants.

It posted last week that federal agencies ended 269 "wasteful contracts" with a total value of $845 million and savings of $255 million.

These include a $50,000 Interior Department consulting contract set up to "provide facilitation and collaborative problem-solving services."

What’s the difference between government and the private sector? Here are my stories:

Back in 1975 or so, I had an assignment at a trona mine in the California desert. When I started up the boiler, it ejected a huge gloppy, oily mess called “smut” that landed all over my rental car. The car was covered stem to stern in goop. I had to use the car a few more days, so I took it to the car wash in Las Vegas that night. I spent about $1.50 on the car wash and put it on my expense report. A month later, the company eagle-eyes in accounting caught it and sent me a reprimand saying “the car rental company would have paid for that.” I ate it.

Later in my career, the big engineering firms I hired had cost accounting codes for EVERYTHING, right down to a single sheet of paper coming out of a copier. If you didn’t provide the code, you didn’t get copies.

Our government is such a colossal fuster cluck in everything it does or touches.

Had a friend who traveled for business and while traveling, it rained every day and he had to go from a hotel to the conference center so he bought himself a $10 umbrella. He put it on his expense report only to have it denied. Next time he traveled and submitted his reimbursement paperwork, he put a Post It note that said, “find the umbrella.” Yes, he got in trouble but it was funny.

DOGE found when the US Treasury Dept went "live with its first automated payment verification system, overseeing $7 trillion tax dollars" there were trillions doled out in untraceable blank checks
<>missing budget codes,
<>invalid budget codes
<>(i.e., the payment was not linked to the budget),
<>budget codes with no authorization
<>(i.e., the budget had already been fully spent).
<>missing Treasury Access Symbol
<>missing id codes linking a payment w/ a recipient.

<>Official US govt portrait Biden’s US Treasury hire, Nigerian Wally Adeyomo,.

<>Nigerian Wally Adeyomo is an experienced Democrat who more than proved his worth.

<>he was Biden’s pick for a top US Treasury job,

<>Adeyemo abruptly quit Treasury when Trump came in.

<>missing documents wrt his Treasury activities overseeing $7 trillion tax dollars

<>Adeyemo quit Treasury leaving $4.7 trillion in untraceable Treasury payments.

<>Nigerian Adeyemo earlier headed buddy Obama’s “Foundation” which made Obama “a billionaire.”

<>Is this why Obama has said he wont discuss his Foundation finances?

DOGE Exposes “Untraceable” $5 TRILLION in
Treasury Payments, “No Idea Where It Went”
American Tribune ^ | March 26, 2025 | Mike Alby
Posted on 3/26/2025, 12:02:54 PM by Red Badger

In a stunning revelation, DOGE announced the discovery of nearly $5 trillion in unaccounted-for government spending. The massive government oversights are due to a previously optional financial tracking field linking US Treasury payments to specific budget line items.

DOGE aggressively pursues the elimination of government waste and promotes transparency in federal spending, a key priority of President Donald Trump’s administration.

The executive order signed on President Trump’s first day in office is a temporary White House initiative with an 18-month mission; the department has already uncovered massive government fraud and waste while also receiving significant pushback from loony leftists.

Treasury’s David Lebryk unexpectedly left his job as soon as DOGE stepped in. *Lebryk forfeited his government pension and career instead of complying* He was replaced by Scott Bessent who provided DOGE with access to the federal payments system:
<><>the Treasury Dept handled $6 trillion in payments
<><>it has not denied a request for payment in 22 years.
<><>bureaucrats, govt officials got Treasury to pay for anything; the answer was always YES.
<><>Musk accused Treasury officials of “breaking the law every hour of every day
<><>Musk affirmed Treasury approved fraudulent payouts
<><>payouts that were at variance with or did not match the funding laws passed by Congress.

Actual funding revealed by independent watchdog agencies also provides insight.
<><>RealClear Investigations found Treasury paid $1.3 billion in federal benefits to the deceased.
<><>FEMA got $70 billion to pay for COVID-19 costs through 2026, but there is no current pandemic.
<><>Open the Books found that $38.7 million was spent on DEI hires.
<><>IRS employees are above the law and owed a collective $50 million in unpaid taxes in 2023.
<><>Treasury sent the NIH $33 million to operate a small island to study monkey behavior,
<><>and provided an additional $3.7 million to research gambling behavior in monkeys.
<><>The University of Michigan received $12 million to test methamphetamine on monkeys,
<><>and a lab in Florida was awarded $477,000 to toy with hormones and create transgender monkeys.
<><>The search is trickling into other agencies the likes of USAID.

The left does not want transparency. Senator Elizabeth Warren penned a letter to Bessent to express her concern over the investigation. “It is extraordinarily dangerous to meddle with the critical systems that process trillions of dollars of transactions each year, are essential to preventing a default on federal debt, and ensure that tens of millions of Americans receive their Social Security checks, tax refunds and Medicare benefits,” wrote Ms. Warren, the top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee.
