Mexico moves to ban Noem ads on illegal migration

MEXICO CITY – A Trump administration publicity campaign aimed at discouraging illegal migration is off to a rocky start, with Mexico’s government calling for the ads to be pulled and promising to ban such foreign “propaganda” in the future.

The ads are part of an unusual, multimillion-dollar initiative paid for with U.S. taxpayer dollars. Shortly after taking office, Kristi L. Noem, the secretary of Homeland Security, announced the campaign, aimed at encouraging undocumented immigrants in the United States to self-deport, and warning foreigners against attempting to slip over the border.

But the campaign has raised questions in the United States about its overtly political messaging and its price tag — up to $200 million over two years. The ads are appearing at a time when Elon Musk’s U.S. DOGE Service, which stands for Department of Government Efficiency, is slashing federal jobs.

In Mexico, it’s been blasted by politicians across the ideological spectrum, including President Claudia Sheinbaum. In the past three months, the leftist leader has sought to satisfy many of President Donald Trump’s demands on curbing migration and the flow of illegal fentanyl. Trump in turn has called her “a wonderful woman” and made concessions on tariffs.

Now, though, at Sheinbaum’s urging, Mexico’s Congress is expected to fast-track a law that would outlaw transmission of the ads on major TV and radio channels — in addition to other foreign government “propaganda.”

“Mexico stands for diversity, inclusion and rights,” Sheinbaum told reporters this week. “Our sovereignty must be respected.”

So far, the commercials have been broadcast in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, in addition to the United States. Tricia McLaughlin, a spokesperson for DHS,...

FJB ran ads in South American countries urging the population to “surge” the US border.

But that was OK.

If they act like an enemy country, they should be treated like it.

Mexico doesn’t want it’s cartels and gang members back. And we don’t want them eithe3r. But they are citizens of Mexico and belong in their own home country.

The article isn’t clear, however. Are these ads being run in Mexico or the US. It makes no sense to run them in Mexico. I would expect them to be run in the US where the illegals are living. In that case, Mexico and have all the temper tantrum it wants but what we air on our televisions is not of their bleeping business.

El Salvador will take them for a low warehousing fee. Most serious approach since Duterte in the Philippines.

If Mexico bans “foreign propaganda”, can we ban foreign propaganda like Telemundo and Univision?

Mexico's southern border into Central America is a short 541 miles, while Mexico's northern border with us is over 1,900 miles. The immigrant route from Central and South America could have been tightened long ago. Mexico chose not to do that. But if non-Mexicans find their way into Mexico, Mexican law does not allow them to stay by claiming threats and such.

The Mexican government site: "...Mexico has granted legal status to more than thirteen thousand foreign nationals who have entered the country at our southern border in order to document their entry and help some of them enter the job market. "

Millions pass through, while Mexico "takes" 13K. See how this works?

I propose the US Government build Radio and TV stations along the US - Mexico Border, run 'em for profit, and Noem can run any ad she wants to.

We can call the stations

Voz de América, and

Radio México Libre!

Betcha we'd get better radio and TV than we get now.

... the commercials have been broadcast in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador,...

So run a new commercial ad, as follows.

"Mexico is wonderful! We encourage everyone to travel and stay in Mexico, they will welcome you and provide what you need. Leave the USA, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador and enjoy the hospitality of Mexico!"

In the San Diego area, the big sports station is ‘The Mighty 1090’ XERB broadcasting out of Tijuana. Most of their broadcast is, or was, it may have changed, in English. You’d only hear Spanish on the hour, Equis A Eri Bay, Tijuana Mexico.

Even their public service ads were in unaccented English but were aimed at Mexican regarding things voting procedures, Mexican social security benefits, minimum wage, women’s rights, etc. Very odd and it took a while to realize that the ads weren’t aimed at Americans.

How are we ‘disrespecting Mexico’s sovereignty’ with this campaign, Claudia?

Sheinbaum is shaking in her boots. She knows Mexico can’t handle 15 million more unemployed Mexicans, and can’t afford to have the tens of billions of dollars in remittances shut off.
