There was emotion across the United States following the death of Pope Francis, with many mourners contrasting the Argentine pontiff's gentle touch with the harshness of the current US administration.
At New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral, hundreds of Catholics gathered in mourning, including worshipper Peter who said "we lost a very good man" whose values were entirely at odds with those of President Donald Trump.
Francis "cared about (people) most of us forget about – the poor, the downtrodden, the forgotten, and the healing power of forgiveness", said the 70-year-old, who did not provide his last name, as Catholics and tourists flocked into the imposing Gothic Cathedral opened in 1879.
"We have a president and an administration that's turning the country in a direction that is in complete contradiction of the values that this pope espoused."
Daphne, Peter's spouse, said Francis' "focus was on the poor and the needy – but also with immigrants".
"Our country right now is forgetting that it was built on immigrants, and that is very hurtful to us as a population," she said.
New Yorker Cathy Colecchi wept openly, describing Francis as "the pope for everyone" and praising his "inclusivity".
The death of Pope Francis silences arguably the most powerful moral voice on the world stage critical of Donald Trump, with the pontiff taking the lead against the US president's mass deportations.
When Trump first ran for president in 2016, Francis was unsparing on Trump's signature promise to build a wall to seal off Mexico, telling reporters, "Anyone, whoever he is, who only wants to build walls and not bridges is not a Christian."
In a letter to US bishops in February, Francis called Trump's deportation plans a "calamity" and pleaded for "the dignified treatment that all people deserve, especially the poorest and most marginalized".

I guess they interviewed the Jesuits, the Franciscans and the writers of the National Catholic Reporter. Because most American Catholics understand that deporting illegals is not a religious issue. Frankly it’s a scandal that Francis and some of the American bishops never try to fix the problem of queers in the Church, the abortion holocaust or the culture’s embrace of perversion and Hollywood values. For some reason, they feel the need to be accepted by the leftist media.
No faithful Catholic mourns the former anti-pope.
I’m not a hardcore vacantist, but I can say that by his actions and words Bergoglio removed himself from the church. And by that metric the chair of Peter has been empty for the last 12 years.

One of the MSM has started referring to Francis as “the People’s Pope.” No, he wasn’t.

I suppose the moneylenders were commenting on Jesus’s gentle touch when he took a whip to them in the temple.

That particular talking point got out there fairly quickly, as if it is true that most of uis forget about the poor, the downtrodden, the forgotten. Americans are famously known for just the opposite sentiment.
The second one was he was a pope to the world, Catholics and non-Catholics.
He promoted homosexuality, trans-genderism, etc.
Truth.
The TDS is so bad, every occurrence is viewed as an opportunity to attack Trump.

I’m a Catholic, alter sever, deacon et al (whose brother was a priest and later a bishop) who stopped attending the local Catholic Church where the priest is a an anti-white communist, in favor of a Protestant church , and is awaiting the Catholic Church to become Catholic again.
My brother was sad, but didn’t blame me. He readily admitted large portions of the church had lost its way and desperately in need of a modern (and non-antisemitic loon, among other issues) Martin Luther.
I just hope the next pope is at least a Catholic unlike the former pope.

I have had a similar experience. Raised Catholic, eucharistic minister, lector, etc. Worked for several years at a diocese sponsored summer camp. A number of my coworkers from there became either priests or monks. My former boss at the camp is now an auxiliary bishop. But I see the rot in the church, humanism and trying to “fit in” with current culture. That’s not the church’s job. Its job is to witness the power and love of God and manifest that power in its adherents lives. And that means absolute standards of morality and behavior. “Let your yes be yes, and your no be no”.

Anyone with children is or should be aware that “tough love” is essential. That goes for all of the openly sinful men who were good friends of Francis. If he really loved them he would have reiterated the teachings of Jesus, “go and sin no more”.
And foreign Deep States continue their collective freak out...
