Like millions of American citizens and immigrants, Ivan filed his taxes last year. But Ivan, 54, a Massachusetts resident who hails from Colombia, is worried a recent agreement between the IRS and Immigration and Customs Enforcement means he is in danger of being deported for doing what he believed was the right thing.
And if taxpayers like Ivan decide not to file taxes because the IRS has said it will share certain tax information filed by undocumented immigrants with ICE, it could cumulatively eliminate billions in tax revenue and create “a massive problem” for citizens and immigrants alike, experts said.
Undocumented immigrants paid $96.7 billion in federal, state and local taxes in 2022, according to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, a nonprofit, nonpartisan tax policy organization. About $59.4 billion of that went to the federal government and $37.3 billion to state and local governments, according to the group’s analysis. It found that even a 10% decrease in the number of undocumented immigrants filing their taxes would mean a decrease of $9.5 billion a year in tax revenue.
“The biggest issue from a revenue standpoint is that opening up tax records for immigration enforcement is going to reduce tax compliance of immigrants, whether undocumented or not, and that will have a significant impact on tax revenue,” said Tom Bowman, a policy counsel with the Center for Democracy and Technology’s security and surveillance project.

Illegal aliens cost the taxpayer’s well north of $150 billion dollars.
That math looks good for kicking them out.
Which the law demands whether we lose or make money.
The amount of money states and fedgov spend on illegals in welfare and crime far outweigh whats lost in tax revenue.
It also assumes they all pay taxes, which is bunk.
CORRECT
IT is a sham argument
SSN is not required. Ivan can use an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN). Look it up.
NOW the left cares about costs? They don’t care about any of the other costs incurred by illegals, just the tax revenue. And for the record, those illegals paying taxes do so to be eligible to become citizens; part of the process application (s) ask if the applicant pays taxes. They aren’t paying taxes to ‘do the right thing’ or out of patriotic duty/fairness.
$10 billion is about $28 for every American. Your life will be over if illegals leave.
So half a tank of gas.
I’ll live.
Meanwhile, DoD staffing turmoil continues:

And cutting off all the FReebies will save us easily 100-fold of that amount.
So it’s a win to cut them off of any connection with the feds except ICE and the border patrol.
Joke of the year: “illegals pay taxes.”
They are takers....nothing more.
when the gallows are built, the first to be hung should be the bought media.
Golly. So the hundreds of billions we spend on illegals is worth the fantasy of taxes paid b illegal alien criminals....
Hilarious Propaganda
Excellent points!
On the flip side, if they even file a tax return, they do so to be able to claim "EARNED INCOME CREDITS" which result in huge tax return checks to them!
Our safety net programs and income supplementation programs are HUGE sources of fraud which are easily exploited!
Sadly, we have established the eventual (near term???) collapse of our civilization even though we will be the last bastion (much like Empires in the past!)
Illegals filing income tax returns...something doesn’t make sense.
I’m sick of hearing about what their ‘loss’ means. Yes, for the few that actually file and NET-PAY taxes we’d lose some money in taxes.
But we’d have less expense in
ESL teachers overloaded classrooms
expanded public support infrastructure and operating costs due to illegals
Less EITC
Less Section 8
less load on charities
Less crime
All that far outweighs that “tax value” claimed for them.
IF an illegal gets a job where he’s confident of not getting nabbed and gets a SSN or ITIN, the very next thing you see is a W-4 with a whole bunch of dependents - so many that there is virtually nothing deducted from the paycheck save FICA and medicare percentages.
BINGO, and if a tax return is filed, it usually is ONLY because "EARNED INCOME CREDIT" can be claimed and..., a large check from IRS appears in his/her account!
yet there are 4 replys above this one where the replier seems to be reading 9.67 Billion. I understand that most of us don't read the accompanying article, but sheesh!! Now it seems that we don't read the excerpt either.
And, if somebody can scientifically calculate how much illegals have paid, there should be some way to track the SSN's or ITIN's involved and get those people out of the country.
