The White House swapped the official portrait of former President Barack Obama for a painting based on a photograph of the sitting President Donald Trump, after the July 2024 assassination attempt on his life.
The portraits were swapped on Friday, April 11, per CNN. The new painting of Trump, 78, shows him raising his fist after a bullet grazed his ear at a rally in Butler, Pa., in July 2024, in an apparent assassination attempt. The swap was announced via the White House's official social media account.

Considering they tried so hard to memory-hole this image right after it happened, they should hang it in every school and gov’t bldg.
So according to actual protocol, Trump’s first term portrait ought to have been hanging for most of the Biden years, along with Obama’s, and now Biden’s portrait ought to be sharing space with Trump’s first term portrait.
Given that neither of these is present, and that Obama’s certainly has had enough time, this seems reasonably fair, although I’d rather that he stay out of the Bushes and put up RWR.

Obama didn’t have any assassination attempts. Trump had two.
Trump never got an official portrait for his first term because nobody in the White House had any intention of inviting him back for the unveiling. They were too focused trying to put him and his supporters in prison.

This is on the first floor where the public tours occur. We went a few weeks ago and had to endure the Obama portrait.
