Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told Newsmax on Wednesday that President Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day” is “a great day because the rest of the world has been leaning on us, exploiting us, and taking advantage of us.”
Earlier in the day Trump announced his much-anticipated reciprocal tariffs designed to reset global trade and return manufacturing of all forms to the United States. Lutnick said the goal is to “reorder global trade. And it’s going to be great for American workers.”
Lutnick said anyone who has known Trump should recognize the president has always seen tariffs as way to help the American worker.
“There’s no one in this administration who’s not completely behind tariffs. I mean, all the time I’ve known him — 35 years — he's been talking about tariffs. If you’re friends with Donald Trump, if you know Donald Trump, if you listen to him on the campaign trail, he told you why and how this is coming. Since 1945, America has sort of took down our protections and let the world build off of us,” Lutnick said on “Greg Kelly Reports.”
Lutnick added that the president’s approach to the economy is built into his own campaign slogan. “And he likes to go back and say, 'Make America great again.' He's talking about when America was superpowerful.”

So now the whole country is a victim?
I’ve wondered about this for years. Us giving away money to everybody and everycountry. We defend the entire world. What the heck?
Yes
DOGE has come to the nations sucking off U.S.A money with tariffs. Like DOGE is drying up the money being money-laundered in Washington D.C., there will be a period where counties will react like junkies getting off crack. They ignore the problem when their host runs up a $36.22 trillion federal debt.
The system of global trade that the US constructed, post-WW2, was intended to be a tool to defeat the Soviets. It accomplished that. And everyone has benefited, including the US.
But it has been, for the US, a rather asymmetrical arrangement. The US has born more of the cost and received less of the benefits, than any other country in the world.
It’s past time that we stopped allowing unrestricted imports from countries that restrict our exports. Or to allow countries that use slave labor to compete against American workers.
We are paying for everyone’s sheet.
Done.
We are not a rug and your magic carpet ride is over....
not us...our illustrious CONgresscritters, spy agencies, government officials, past presidents, bankers, big business operations, and basically anyone and everyone who had and has the opportunity to financially rob, rape and pillage the American taxpayers. we must like it because WE KEEP VOTING FOR THE SAME ASSHOLES over and over and over again as if to say to our masters “more please”.
The problem isn’t free trade. It’s immigration, foreign aid and bad treaties like the one where we gave-up the Panama canal.
Excellent post.
Additonally, NAFTA was destroyed by Canada and Mexico’s allowing all these other countries to set up shop and bypass thier home nation trade agreements. When Germany, Japan, Korea or China sets up shop in a NAFTA country they do so with an eye on saving money due to NATFA being free trade. Canada and Mexico essentially destroyed the viability of NAFTA in their process to allow others to profit off the agreement, which the USA never intended happen.
Yes, time to take off the blinders. The real victims all these years are the working public.
Alternate head line:
The USA is not going to allow the Democrats to bribe the rest of the world any further!
