Republican Town Hall Drowned Out by 'Tax the Rich' Chants
Newsweek ^ | 03 19 2025 | James Bickerton

Posted on 03/25/2025 5:55:07 PM PDT by yesthatjallen

Nebraska Republican Mike Flood was heckled at a town hall event he hosted on Tuesday in Columbus, with a section of the crowd at one point chanting "tax the rich" at the House representative.

Newsweek contacted Flood for comment on Wednesday outside of regular office hours via telephone and voicemail message. Why It Matters

Flood is the latest in a succession of Republican politicians to receive a rough reception at town hall meetings across the U.S. since President Donald Trump's inauguration, with House Speaker Mike Johnson advising his GOP colleagues to stop hosting the in-person events earlier this month.

Criticism at town hall events has focused heavily on the cuts imposed by Elon Musk's newly created Department of Government Efficiency, along with concerns over Social Security and Trump's position on the Russia-Ukraine war.

Yikes, IDs will be needed to prove a town hall attendee lives in the county.

"Only a fool would do these “town halls”."

Every republican currently in office should schedule simultaneous town halls.

I love these idiots, they elected Democrats who championed “tax the rich”, then these Democrats take money (various forms) to pass exceptions so the rich minimize their taxes. All the while the tax the rich idiots are ok with their Democratic leaders…. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The ongoing charade of “democracy” which means mobs shouting down opponents, the threat of violence followed by actual violence (including burning cars and car dealers).

The shifty Schumer said GOP people in the House and Senate would be threatened with “the consequences” by mobs-—so he could pretend “Oh, gosh, goodness, no, I didn’t mean the shooting that just happened. Just consequences like an election.” He KNEW what he was sneaking around to imply.

Next phase will be political assassinations on a big scale.

They are taxed quite heavily. Their share of the income tax payments is far beyond their share of earned income.

Honestly, Republicans need to stop these town halls and providing the media with this footage to report that the public is fed up with Trump/Republicans. We already knew these are not spontaneous crowds showing up and Schumer openly admitted the other day they are “sending people” to these events to disrupt them. Or, we need to get it together and get our people there ahead of time and get the seats filled to avoid this kind of fiasco.

Too much Koolaid. The top 10% of the income distribution (the "rich") pay over 70% of all taxes collected by the IRS. The bottom 50% (< $46,500) pay less than 3% of the tax receipts. It is the rich who invest in the economy, cause economic growth, and create jobs. We vilify the rich and praises the poor. Why? How many of you were hired by a poor person?

Bezos became a millionaire years ago, but instead of buying a yacht and sailing around the world eating bon-bons and enjoying his wealth, he plowed the money back into Amazon so it could grow. So, until you "tax-the-rich" idiots feed, clothe, and shelter over 250,000 souls, sit down and STFU.
