A sophisticated scam has taken hold across the United States, prompting the FBI to issue an urgent warning over a widespread phishing campaign disguised as toll payment requests. The so-called 'E-ZPass scam' involves fraudulent text messages sent to mobile phone users, claiming they owe money for unpaid tolls. Victims who click the embedded links risk having their personal and financial data stolen.

I got one, funny because there are no toll roads in New Mexico. Some highways I’d pay NOT to drive on, but no toll roads.
I’ve gotten multiple versions of this text. All deleted a junk, since I haven’t driven on a Toll Road since 2019.
My wife has gotten 3 of them in the last month.
I had enough trouble w th the tri state nyc ez pass after a car rental and a trip to Newark. No way would I click such a link
Nazi-pass is a scam from the get-go.
If you have the right tag, you don’t have to pay.
So the “elites” get a free ride and the lemmings pay out.
Plus, despite the reduced expenses due to not having to hire toll collectors, the tolls never decreased.
At least we can say we have a technological society.
Why can’t the FBI easily track down the perpetrators?
Everybody in our family has gotten them for two or three months now. To anybody with a shred of common sense they are laughable. They don’t specify the toll authority and another bunch of obvious errors. Anybody with half a brain knows to not click links in unknown text messages or emails. I just click “Report junk,” delete it and move on.
I have received about six of them. When I got the first one, I logged into my account from home to check my account balances. No problem. Just deleted all the rest as they came in.
“Some highways I’d pay NOT to drive on” — LOL. That’s a good one. Maybe that’s a new business opportunity!
“Urgent warning” !
I’ve been getting those for months - deleted and block every time.
If (on the outside chance it is a real toll business) they can’t send a snail-mail bill, eff em.
And an excellent class of crooks, too! Except the crooks are probably in India.
I have rec’d several of those. They have figured out I am in New York - but the return email is something like “toll133oiwerdsaf@hotmail.com“
ie) its clearly not an email of a government agency.
“Why can’t the FBI easily track down the perpetrators?”
No kidding. They can capture thousands of J6 people in short order, but not these crooks? How lame to just issue a warning.
Matter of fact I just had one of those messages show up on my phone a couple of days ago and I just deleted it.
“block every time”
Unfortunately that’s a fool’s errand. Every message comes from a different number. You never win Whack-A-Mole.
I’ve been getting these texts for 6 weeks or more. The offending unpaid toll they refer to was paid in October. I’ve blocked them once, now twice. .
Got this one too. As a blanket rule, whenever you get a text/email from an organization (or it looks like it) that you want to respond to, don’t click any link in the message. Just log into their website like you normally would on your own.
I just send them the French taunt from Monty Python and the Holy Grail run through a translator into Russian.
