Trump says he’ll scrap plan to move FBI HQ to Maryland, will keep agency in D.C.
Washington Times ^ | March 14, 2025 | Jeff Mordock

President Trump said he will stop the FBI’s plan to move out of its massive downtown Washington headquarters and relocate to suburban Maryland, pledging to keep the law enforcement agency in the nation’s capital.

“We’re going to stop. We’re not going to let it happen,” Mr. Trump said in remarks Friday at the Department of Justice.

The president condemned the plan to build a new FBI headquarters on a 61-acre plot near the Metro station in Greenbelt. He complained that the Greenbelt location was too far from the Justice Department’s headquarters and the bureau needs to remain downtown to help reduce crime.

...

Mr. Trump said FBI Director Kash Patel is eyeing a former Commerce Department building in Washington that is roughly a quarter of the size of the current headquarters, saying it would hold “far fewer people.” Since taking office last month, Mr. Trump has been determined to reduce the size of government through layoffs, canceling spending plans and shuttering departments.

He said Mr. Patel wants to sell the parcel where the FBI headquarters sits because the bureau doesn’t need the space it currently occupies.

The president did not say if he would prefer building a new FBI headquarters on the same parcel across the street from the Justice Department, which he championed during his first term, or would back Mr. Patel’s idea to move the agency to the former Commerce Department building.

Mr. Trump’s plans rattled Maryland lawmakers eager to reap the financial benefits of having a new federal headquarters in their state.

Democratic Maryland lawmakers including Gov. Wes Moore issued a joint statement insisting the FBI headquarters will be built in Maryland and touted the benefits of the proposed new digs.

Why build a completely new complex when there’s going to be lots of formerly-occupied government office space opening up in DC?

Living in MD I could not be happier. Wes Moore has no say in the matter. I am happy to see MD not get this grift.

No more boondoggles.

Excellent move—the new FBI HQ was going to be a monster—a monument to the power and reach of the Deep State.

“Democratic Maryland lawmakers including Gov. Wes Moore issued a joint statement insisting the FBI headquarters will be built in Maryland…”

How cute. They think they have a say in the matter.

Yup. Plus these agents need to be spread around the country more.

I’m ok with farming a lot of federal agencies out across the country; a lot of them already have the bulk of their staff in the field. They are not all regulators and headquarters paper pushers.

That said, core constitutional agencies should be close the the White House and Congress. These would include State, Defense, Justice, Treasury, Interior, the IC, and probably a few others. USDA maybe, simply because the acreage it covers is so huge: the National Forests and all cropland. The bulk of USDA’s budget is food stamps, which were placed in USDA to help round up urban congressional votes for the Farm Bills and rural congressional votes for at least one major welfare program. That’s a political quid pro quo, nothing more, but the USDA/Forest Service territorial footprint exceeds any other federal agency.

Have fun with the others; I’m easy, except that I want HUD to go to the southside of Chicago and EPA to be sent to Houston and put in buildings with no air conditioning in order to set and example in virtue signalling.

This is classic FAFO—they thought they could terrorize us by arresting 1583 J6ers with 5000 FBI employees participating.

The worm has turned.

The Democrats will lay low. Then in 4-12 years, they'll try again. This time, they'll make sure that the new FBI HQ will be built in VA.

I think that’s a terrible mistake. The FBI building should have been demolished, and a new facility should have been built in Kansas or Nebraska. AS far away from Government interference as possible.

Though we have new leadership now in the FBI there is still a very large chance that the agency will again return to its corrupt, criminal activities.

Now I would like to hear that all the Capital Police offices Biden and Pelosi were trying to open throughout the country are getting shut down.
