Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth directed the Department of Defense (DOD)'s civilian workforce to comply with Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) productivity email, listing five things they accomplished after initially telling them not to reply.
On Sunday, Hegseth released a video message explaining the shift.
"Our civilian patriots who dedicate themselves to defending this nation working for the Department of Defense are critical to our national security," Hegseth said. "As we work to restore focus on DOD's core warfighting mission under President Trump's leadership, we recognize that we cannot accomplish that mission without the strong and important contributions of our civilian workforce."
Musk, who's heading up DOGE, shared Hegseth's video on X, writing, "Much appreciated @SecDef Hegseth!" He also included a saluting emoji and an American flag emoji.
Hegseth told employees to reply to the email within 48 hours and include their accomplishments and add their supervisors as recipients.
He said in the video that the responses would be collected within the department to satisfy the requirement sent out by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).

Hegseth told DOD employees to reply within 48 hours and add their supervisors as recipients; said responses would be collected within DOD to satisfy Office of Personnel Management requirements.
Musk on X: “Much appreciated @SecDef Hegseth!” w/ a saluting emoji and an American flag emoji.
Those who do not comply should be terminated immediately.
At least 25% of the responses will be Kamala Harris like word salad.
Count on it.
Seems reasonable... if you count the meetings I was supposed to attend I could say I got nothing done because I was in meetings 5 days a week. I seldom attended those meetings and when asked why I said I had work to do. Then I’d get the Friday 15:00 meeting with DoD in DC wanting to know if I could get “X” on an aircraft and make it work and they needed the answer by 17:00. My answer was always given time and money I could pretty much make anything work... they hated the answer and I said I hated the question at15:00 on a Friday with 2hrs to answer.
yup
We will soon learn if dead or non-existent people are cashing checks.
I worked for the DoD and I could satisfy the 5 questions with what I did in ONE day.
Supporting the Navy warfighter is a busy business.
Multi-tasking is a way of life in that gig.
Either way, I think it is a fine idea. Supposedly it would make no difference how you answered, even like this:
If they don’t comply no job they are not worth keeping around when the prove they can’t do it.
This should not be very hard. They aren’t looking for a book, just 5 bullet points.
I used to write a status report every week for my private sector job, which had to be somewhat detailed, but not a book. I don’t see what the issue is.
As a DoD contractor I remember weekly doing something similar to this, except I had to roll it up for my subordinates.
As I was a SETA (Systems Engineering Technical Assistance) contractor, I worked to support the Army Civilians. Never had the courage to write something like “had to unF@@K the crisis caused by”.
“Kamala Harris like word salad”
…100% agreed. “My work goes beyond what the mind can comprehend. It’s a complex mix of cerebral and physical devotion to my work that doesn’t just stop there.”
HOORAY Hegseth! Thanks Elon.
Musk called it a "pulse check" in the cabinet meeting last week—and everyone laughed.
And who will validate their lies?
My guess is this is a good first pass, because even though some will answer to show “proof of life” that “there are two neurons and a keyboard”, there may be a number who won’t.
As the humorous cartoon at post #9 shows, for that, it doesn’t matter what they write as long as they write something...:)
Comply or hit the bricks. That’s what we were told about taking the experimental jab.
Comply or hit the bricks.
I’m sure someone already made an app for this.

If they are good at lying they are intelligence community material.
Lol.
