According to the polls, the Canadian Liberals (or, Grits) have pulled to even with the Canadian Conservatives (or, Tories, like in the UK) in the polls. The left-wing New Democrats have been reduced to near zero; and, the Bloc Quebeqois may hold the balance of power.

The rebound is said to be due to Trump, and this is partly correct. But, it is also typical of parties that shift horses in mid stream. They tend to get a temporary bounce in the polls. We've saw this last year when the Democrats dumped Biden and shifted to Harris. New found enthusiasm for the Democrats. And, how much of that was real and how much of that was temporary, fake and/or wishful thinking?

We saw this in 2023 in New Zealand when Jacinda! resigned as prime minister and leader of his party. Her successor got a bounce in the polls, and then was bounced out of office.

So, lads, let's not be disheartened. The other side isn't stupid. They have a trick or two hidden up their sleeve. We shouldn't take anything for granted other than hard work will improve our performance.

If that’s true I suspect that it could have something to do with DJT’s “51st state” comments.

“ The other side isn’t stupid.”

But, the other side of our northern border is.

Reads just like Kamala’s rise & dramatic fall, based on left leaning polls.

I love Trump but joking about making Canada a state is exactly the kind of thing the left can use to create paranoia.
Greenland is another issue, but as best I can țell, the whole Canada thing is just a joke.

The are exploiting the resentment we saw when they booed the US Hockey team. For their sake I hope this Lib bounce is not real because they are truly screwed if they don’t dump the Liberals. It is worth noting that this is Reuters so it may be BS.

It isn’t our job to elect their ruler. If they are this stupid, a pox on them.

The left has already accused us of being Nazis when they are the ones who tried to mandatory vaxx and lawfare and censor us.

They cannot get more paranoid than that.

I could not care less if they freak out every five minutes about everything.

some contacts I have in Quebec have said that the debate on duties and the “51st state” stuff has finally made independence-minded Quebecois folks “proud to be Canadian” for the first time in their lives.

Although I love DJT (I've been to five of his rallies, the first being on 8/6/2016) I'm not a big fan of his "51st state" comments.Among my reasons are that we shouldn't be humiliating a reasonable neighbor. It's easy to imagine that typical Canadians are angered and insulted by these comments just as we'd be angered if Canada referred to us as the "12th Province".

If I'm correct on this it's easy to see why some Canadians might listen to their faggot Maoist Prime Minister chant "death to America" and say "yah, that sounds OK to me".

Ping Canada Ping

I suspect replacing Trudeau is the bigger factor, but I could be wrong: the reaction against Trump’s comments is real.

Kim Campbell experienced a similar bounce, but it faded quickly enough and the Conservatives went from a potential majority (which is what the polls probably point to for the Liberals for now) to two seats. That said, the rise of reform under Manning accounts for a good bit of the cratering.

There is a good weekly podcast covering Canadian polls and elections.

Again, if you are so stupid as to go from hating Trudeau to voting for him due to 51st state comments, the tariff needs to be 50%.

As far as being a friend, they are a leach and have been for years. They barely have a military and rely on us, and then talk $hit about us any chance they get...

Trump has put Polivier in a defensive position: will he be like Trump if elected? Will he allow Canada to be the 51st state?

Well, from what I know, ‘separation talk’ in Quebec has died down a lot in recent years but if they are ‘proud to be Canadian’, I suppose that’s a beneficial side consequence.

It seems that most Canadians are either quite worried about 51st state and tariff talk or they roll their eyes as they consider the ‘negotiating style’ of their friends south of the border. The one party that seems to have decided that it would to their benefit to ‘play tough’ is the Liberal party (or what is left of it post-Trudeau, although he hasn’t left yet). The comments by Freeland at the leadership debate the other night were quite astounding... go to the 26:48 mark to catch this clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERNET3LvoRU ...and then there is this one by Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly who is also pushing this ‘stronger European alliance in view of this grave threat from the United States..... https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/canada-intelligence-sharing-europe?tbref=hp

These people really aren’t very bright...

Both Canada and Mexico bear long term grudges against the United States for attempts to take territory in the War of 1812 (unsuccessful) and the Mexican War (successful). The Dominion of Canada was organized by London to tie their North American colonies together to provide a unified government in case the U.S., flush with a Civil War victory against the Confederacy and aware of Union Army assistance to the Mexican rebels who overthrew the French-installed monarchy, decided to renew territorial claims against British North America.

Even though Canadians have much culture, commerce, and language in common with the United States, Canada is incompatible with our country, due to Canadian nationalism and the fact that globalist ideology is more pervasive there, even in Alberta.

Canadian liberals are extremely shallow voters. They like voting for shiny suits and not substantial policies.

Trump’s timing of making a tiff with Canada was wrong.

He should have waited till the Libersls were defeated and then negotiated with a Conservative government.

It’s a mixture of both. Trump certainly did the Conservatives no favor be presenting America as the “enemy” by gaslighting Canada as the 51st state.
