New leadership at the FBI is starting an investigation into the origins of the agency’s plan a decade ago to infiltrate the campaign of then-candidate Donald Trump using two female undercover “honeypot” agents. The off-the-books investigation, launched in 2015 by former FBI Director James Comey, was revealed by an agency whistleblower in a protected disclosure to the House Judiciary Committee last year and first reported exclusively by The Washington Times in October. In the intelligence community, a honeypot commonly refers to an undercover operative, usually a woman, who feigns sexual or romantic interest to obtain information from a target.

The honeypot operation may well have happened outside of DC.
Even if some elements of it happened outside the district the DOJ can choose that venue.
The NSA has all electronic communications—if needed.
Who was the target? If it was candidate Trump, they would have had to find a honeypot better-looking than Melania - good luck with that.
What I am asking is, if the crime occurred INSIDE the beltway, can the trial be moved elsewhere in order to obtain an objective jury pool?
A whistleblower exposed the fact that two female FBI agents were also whistleblowers! Lol
Wouldn’t it be great to see the real felons like Comey doing the perp walk?
Fascinating!
I’d be willing to bet this is NOT the first time the FBI has done this to Americans.
They traveled with the campaign, pretending to be campaign workers. Guaranteed they hit some Republican state. They landed in Oklahoma City, they landed in Texas, they landed in Missouri, they landed in Florida, pick a jurisdiction and prosecute the two hooers there.
This would be interesting—FBI acting as the KGB. How do you tempt Trump—who has Melania, a super model? Its like trying to bribe Trump with a suitcase of cash.
Watching for who else squirms besides Comey.
I think that he will feel like a bird. I still want to see him pay a heavy price though.
THE WALLS ARE CLOSING IN!
If all elements of the crime occurred inside the limits of DC then it would be very difficult to get a change of venue outside DC.
That said—most white collar crimes are very complex and take place in multiple locations.
A honeypot operation would be highly unlikely to be limited to one geographical location.
I wasn't asking about this specific case but in general. If a prosecutor can't move a trial to an impartial venue, it's a huge structural problem that can perhaps be addressed by Congressional Statute specifially with respect to the DC. That way they could restrict the distance such that relocating the trial would not pose an undue hardship on the defendant.
That's my concern. See post 35.
They went after Papadapolous with one of the honey pots. They also tried to temp General Mike Flynn with one.
Where? In their personal sexually explicit taxpayer supported chat room?
If the defendant can’t make bail then they should be local to the trial.
Lol.
