Notice the talks etc. for this happened BEFORE President Trump's Inauguration.

How interesting that the Biden regime was potentially in talks to buy 'armored Tesla cybertrucks'. And now it is suddenly an issue?

You just cannot make this stuff up!! And the logical reasoning of even putting an electric vehicle in a battle zone?

That’s the point that needs to be made. All of this was while Biden was president. Elon Musk is a businessman and he was selling trucks. If the US government wanted them, then he is going to try and sell them.

However, in the situation he finds himself now, it might be more politically advisable to pull that contract.

“And the logical reasoning of even putting an electric vehicle in a battle zone?”

I was working on Future Combat Systems at General Dynamics. The initial FCS concept was for all electric vehicles. It was insane. Then the program allowed us to continue with conventional power while we worked out the technical details. I went to see the chief engineer as this all sounded insane. He told me that in order to get the Democrats to vote for the funding the program told them everything on the program would be aimed at solving Global Warming and the technology we designed would revolutionize energy consumption and we’d somehow stave off the inevitable melting of the poles and the destruction of all that Democrat beach front property. Among the idiot things in the contract, we couldn’t use cadmium or chromium plating or even buy a connector from a company that used those materials on any other produce even those we weren’t buying. This meant we paid people to build connectors who had zero experience designing and building them. (They all failed.)

The program was designed to fail. But the idea of electric combat vehicles was to help solve Global Warming.

I agree - it is a bit unseemly that a high placed individual is part of a multi-million dollar deal. Besides I have a feeling that ‘all-electric vehicle’ is a term that is becoming associated with incompetency.

High dollar golf carts are OK for short range transportation of light loads. But if one is driving a multi-ton, highly armored war machine and your battery gives out, you become nothing more than a target. If the crew is lucky they can get out of the machine before it is turned into slag.

Biden’s cockamamie plan to have the govt buy electric

I was involved with a R&D company that was charged to develop cleaner fuels for US tanks to provide a cleaner combat environment. Directive from the Pentagon.

My job was to provide a coupling for the diesel to connect to a dyno.

“... to provide a cleaner combat environment.”

There’s a whole ecosystem of companies with offices near Congress and the Pentagon. Their purpose is to suck money out of the government as possible for crazy things only Democratic politicians think is a good idea. The clean or “renewable” fuel scam appears in many contracts even if the item under contract isn’t burning fuel. The contract may read something like, “And X corporation will use twenty percent renewable fuels in all fuel consuming corporate and contracted items.”

I’m developing a requirements matrix for an audit; requirements on the left and how we met them on the right, so I went looking for evidence we had done this. The answer came back they bought fuel for the corporate jet. I wasn’t given a document stating that, so I left it off the matrix and we passed the audit.

$400 mil?! Elon can give, donate them to the military for testing and evaluation. He can also supply the techs and support for that testing and he’ll never miss the income.

My point is this was another Biden regime fiasco! Now they want to make a big deal out it?

Better yet....where did the 400 million go if not to Tesla? Or is it still awaiting expenditure and the entire thing should be shutdown?

Don’t let Dems call the shots here. Trump and Trumpism is in the acescent, so why cave into Dems. Give Tesla this $400 million dollar contact. GM and Ford will screw it up.

This $400 million dollar contact leads to more sales. Such as European nations buying armored Tesla Cybertrucks.

I don’t accept that this is a conflict of interest. This was all set up prior to DOGE.

Some of this is optics. Are they “hiding” the Tesla/Musk connection? I don’t think so. It is common to go from known specific products to more general terms. From Kleenex to facial tissues. Today’s Space-X may become tomorrow’s re-usable launch vehicle.

It will be for President Trump and the Secretary of Defense to change the focus from fighting global warming to fighting wars. Congress will probably have their say also.

Much of the day-to-day mission of the Army is training. Perhaps EVs on hand and under contract could still be used for training. If EVs don’t make sense on the battlefield, then I don’t think there should be any future contracts.

How many subsidies go into the Teslas I see on the road? How about the charging stations? I think we should phase out subsidies in the most graceful way possible.

I expect the revenues of EV makers to go down. EVs may be great for the moon, or Mars, sometime in the future.

“Musk, who is one of the biggest beneficiaries of US government contracts through the companies he controls.”

Very important words here...

He is right, they make terrible vehicles period. Why they haven’t gone hybrid with NO batteries needed like Locomotives I have no clue. It is the most efficient technological compromise available. Has been for almost a hundred years. They keep getting stuck on “batteries” when they are not even needed to make an efficient reliable hybrid.

Actually, Tesla makes the best cars on the market. They make the only EV’s remaining. They are successfully producing and selling several car models, a cyber truck and semi’s pulling full loads.

The government mandate for EV’s assumed the fantastic American auto makers could begin to produce electrified vehicles. The lesson learned is they didn’t know how and at the cost of $$$ billions, failed miserably.

Tesla sold more cars in any given period than all other manufacturers put together. You simply have absolutely no clue about Tesla.
