Marco Rubio’s Cuban Opportunity/Opinion
Newsweek ^ | January 29, 2025 | Oscar Biscet

Posted on 02/03/2025 7:52:17 AM PST by NorthernDancer

We Cubans are fortunate that [Marco] Rubio has become America's chief diplomat, because he knows the region's challenges and will also prioritize the crisis taking place just 90 miles from U.S. shores in Cuba.

As the son of Cuban immigrants, Rubio is a close observer and vocal critic of Havana's communist regime. During his confirmation hearing, Rubio said Cuba is "literally collapsing."

He's right. My neighbors and I in Havana experience ongoing power outages and long lines for food and basic medications. Many necessary items are simply not available. The situation is even worse in Cuba's rural areas.…

Looking ahead, I urge Rubio's State Department to bolster its support for Radio and Television Marti, an American state-run radio and TV broadcaster based in Miami. Created in 1983, Radio-TV Marti gives Cubans who can access it an alternative to the propaganda being broadcast by the Cuban government.

Get a bunch of Cuban-Americans from Florida. Dress them up in Free Cuba Army uniforms, then go in with the US military and take down the communist leadership. Immediately turn them over to the new Free Cuban Army.

Shock and Awe Bay of Pigs. Cuba Libre!

If you wanted Cuba’s attention, and serious change....offer up mini-nuke-energy capability and grid-help. I think they would bend over backwards now....allowing totally open elections, if you get the power-grid back to 100-percent.

Excellent suggestion. The Cuban people have lived so long under the boot of communism on their necks.
Cuba can be a tourism paradise and the income rebuild it for the betterment of their people. Resorts, casinos, medical procedure destination clinics, rebuild their sugar and tobacco agriculture and add more crops. manufacture and export to the US and neighbors , things that China does now.

**In his confirmation hearing, Rubio said that “the moment of truth is arriving” for Cuba’s communist rulers. I am certain that moment will someday arrive. And I am certain it will arrive much sooner with America’s support.**
You do it by pouring gasoline on their fire.

**The State Department could also help Cuba by increasing sponsorship of programs that assist the construction and strengthening of an independent civil society that advocates for democracy and human rights on the island.**
Waste of time. Gasoline is better.

I was thinking just that in a Greenland thread post last month.

“The way things are going in Cuba, I bet we could buy it at a fire sale price. Beautiful beaches, warm water, great fishing, fantastic cigars and rum! And no friggin ice or snow!”

Don’t think there’s any evidence Fentanyl is flowing from Cuba directly to the US. So why this?

Mexico has an actual border with the US and nobody is proposing a US military invasion there. So why Cuba? Because you don’t like the government? We don’t like Mexico’s government, either.

There are a zillion places around the world we don’t like the government. Not invading there. So why Cuba? Because it’s closer and cheaper?

When did it become anti American to embrace the idea of mind your own business? Suppose Venezuela launched a Cuba invasion. Are we then going to defend the Cuban government? Or try to persuade the world we are better than Venezuela while going for a Cuban takeover to oppose Venezuela.

Or vice versa. Maybe we flip a coin and decide to join Venezuela and its invasion of Cuba.

Mind Your Own Business. How is this evil?

Most cubans, not the Communist who are so beloved by our Progs/Dems/Libs, have proven to be our best immigrants and a reliable conservative vote. Keep out the insane and criminals but drain that island of all its talented hardworking God fearing Communist hating people. They would be a step up from some of our native born Communists who could all move to the Worker’s Paradise.

I was in the Navy in the mid-to-late 80s and I visited Guantanamo Bay (before it was cool...lol!) It really was a beautiful, tropical place. It's almost a crime that they haven't adopted to a free, capitalist economy there--the influx of money from the potential for tourism there would be incredible. It would transform that island overnight, lifting its residents out of poverty.

Indeed.

The costs of integrating Cuba in any way would be astronomical. And what would be the end result? Good American citizens? Not likely.

The only thing that will dislodge the communist corruptocrats is another revolution.

Rubio will have other fish to fry.
1) Haiti-we need a final solution.
2) The Falklands-negotiate a turnover to Argentina. 2k residents are not worth protecting.

Get it overwith. Make it a U.S. territory, like Puerto Rico is. End the Cuban Marxists now serving throughout Latin America as proxies for the Mullahs in Tehran.
