Seeing military pilots say seeing oncoming planes from runway 3-3 is nearly impossible and complaints have been made for more than a decade.
Yeah, perhaps someone will hear it now, and implement changes in flight rules. Always after the fact.
Also seeing some talk of spatial disorientation being possible cause of being of flight pattern
I think all the arm chair detectives who are not helicopter pilots or airplane pilots just don’t have an understanding as to how hard all of this is and the way motion parralx and all the other issues come into play
The families of all the dead people will be looking to sue.
I am guessing that American Airlines is not at fault so that leaves helicopter crew and Tower.
No one ever thought there wasnt.
Sorry you’re so sensitive.
Arrrghhh.
This was about all the others on the plane that perished. There were others, just like you and me, flying from Wichita to Reagan National Airport, that died.
Don’t hijack this thread to promote your theories about the helicopter pilot.
I’m almost disgusted about the level FR has dropped down to during the Biden period. We need to get back to logic and facts and reality.
I understand authority. If you work on a railroad and get 1 inch out of your authority you are fired, period. You get to come back in 2 years, if you are lucky.
All of us pointing out disbelief or uncertainty of how this happened, are not just arm chair quarterbacks.
If you knew what trains were carrying(and you might), you would understand what I am talking about in regards to track authority or permission.
A train disaster in the right place could kill way more than 67 people.
I’ve used NVGs and I still do not understand how that helo did not see the plane within 8 or 10 seconds. Look at the video on X.
Beyond that I have yet to hear anyone who has flown in that corridor under those circumstances explain why that helo was 200 feet above its allowed ceiling.
This post is not aimed at you, mostly. Just there are questions to be answered and anyone defending the pilot because there is a lot going on at that time, is not taking in the whole picture in my opinion. This traffic apparently is nothing unusual. The findings need to come out.
There are alot of answers that are needed.
Maintain visual separation puts the burden on the helicopter but factor in runway 33 issues and certain defects in the communication the blackhawk may have been focused on wrong plane.
I don’t know if visual command negates 200 ft issue.
I believe it will turn out to be fault of helicopter crew and Tower but mostly Tower.
I think negligence for now. I noticed that almost all of the reports stated that the jet collided with a helicopter which somewhat implies that the jet was at fault. I think it should say army helicopter collided with passenger jet.
Uh, at that 100 yards, the closing velocity (vector) would mean the helo pilot would have MAYBE 1-1/2 seconds to react, less the time for the change in input to the controls to subsequently have any significant effect.
Math is your friend.
I understand what you are saying about the wild speculation and conspiracy theories (and theorists) who seem to have taken over FR, and I would include the posters who respond to posts or posters they don’t like, with the same silly / irrelevant cartoons or graphics they’ve posted sometimes hundreds of times before...
However, as a practical matter, I would suggest OP’s wishing to focus discussion of an article or thread politely request such in reply 1 or 2.
