Americans flags will be flown at half-staff on Trump's Inauguration Day. Here's why

WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald Trump has expressed frustration that flags will be flying at half-staff when he takes office later this month.

...On Dec. 29, Biden ordered that U.S. flags be flown at half-staff in honor of the late former president. It's an honor that indicates that the country or a state is in mourning.

The U.S. flag code lays out parameters for lowering the U.S. flag to half-staff, including a 30-day period for current or former presidents to cover flags at federal government buildings and their grounds, as well as at U.S. embassies and other facilities abroad, including military installations and vessels.

Flags can be lowered to commemorate the deaths of other officials, including the vice president, Supreme Court justices and members of Congress, although those periods aren’t as long.

Flags can also be ordered lowered in other circumstances, including a national tragedy or on Memorial Day.

Since U.S. flag code states that no flag should fly higher than the American flag on the same pole or nearby, state flags get lowered during those periods, too.

How long do flags stay at half-mast? According to Biden's proclamation, U.S. flags will be lowered for 30 days from Carter's death, until Jan. 28.

With the inauguration on Jan. 20, that means that flags will be at half-staff when Trump takes office and for the first week of his administration.

Unbelievable. Just saw headline that Governor Greg Abbott will make sure TX has its flags at full staff on Inauguration Day.

It seems that we're pretty much stuck with it. The established tradition/protocol is the flag at half staff for 30 days after the death of a president or former president. January 20th is still well within that period. To raise the flag up before the time has expired would be taken as a sign of disrespect to Carter.

It's not the best of circumstances but it's what we've been dealt. Personally I've no problem with it. Nothing, including a presidential inauguration, is going to be perfect. In the end the flag at half mast during Trump's swearing-in is going to be a historical curiosity, nothing more.

Lol he died December 29th! Nothing personal but there’s not a soul on earth who is still grieving President Carter. Plus, it’s not as if our nation gives a crap, collectively, about such customs. Especially the youth. They don’t even know who he is. What a joke!

Carter didn’t believe in creation or the flood. He thought there were many ways to get into heaven. He probably cares about the flag being at half staff as much as I do.

Yep - 30 days is protocol. Not a big deal. Of course the symbolism will eat up the internet on Inauguration Day.

“All of America Flies Flag at Half-Staff for Beginning of Trump’s “Rule”

One of the few times the leftists will even notice the American flag.

“”The U.S. flag code lays out parameters for lowering the U.S. flag to half-staff, including a 30-day period for current or former presidents””

.

NOPE.

That is not according to the real Flag Code, not the thin air version.

The real planet Earth version says this...

“Death of Prominent Government Officials The US flag is flown at half-staff to honor the passing of current or former government officials, a practice steeped in respect and tradition. The guidelines for such occasions are specific, with the US flag code half-staff guidelines detailing the protocol for officials at various levels of government, from the President and former Presidents to members of Congress and Supreme Court Justices. The duration for flying the flag at half-staff varies; >>>> for a sitting President, it is 30 days,<<<< whereas for other officials, it might range from the day of death until burial. This practice underscores the nation’s respect for those who have served their country, acknowledging their contributions to the fabric of American society and governance.”

.

30 days is for a sitting President.

.

It doesn’t change a thing. It makes liberals look like the children they are and just emboldens decent people. Also, I’m sick of the left wing medias “here’s why” articles. Anytime I see “here’s why” I can fully expect a propaganda piece.

Trump inherits a nation in crisis. That is the symbolism.

The flag should have been flown inverted for the last four years.

We could raise the flag to full staff on the 20th then add one day to the end of the originally specified term.

Nowhere in the code does it say the 30 days must be consecutive.

Even if I were in mourning, which I’m not, the flags can be at full staff on Inauguration Day and at half-staff the rest of the traditional time allotment. We don’t have to be stupid about such things.

If Mr. Carter had been assassinated, that would be different, but he simply died of old age which doesn’t require special recognition on the very day our nation is getting a new president, and, prayerfully, another chance to get back on track. It would take someone of stature, like Reagan, for me to think otherwise, and Carter wasn’t even close to being the stateman Reagan was.

I have an idea, let’s raise the flag on even days, and lower it on odd days.

Half staff, full staff, quarter staff, no flag at all. Matters not, because no matter what, Trump will still be the President.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — American flags at Pres Trump ‘s private Mar-a-Lago residence are flying at full height. Flag protocol enforced by Trump-hater Biden stipulates flags fly at half-staff for Jimmy Carter, who died Dec. 29.

A large flag on Trump’s property in Palm Beach was lowered to half-staff, according to protocol, but has since been raised after Carter was buried Thursday in his hometown of Plains, Georgia.
