Scandals, schism and decay: is the Church of England doomed?
The Sunday Times (UK) ^ | December 22 2024, | Stephen Bleach

Posted on 12/22/2024 7:48:20 AM PST by Salman

The vicar Father Alex Frost surveys a small, shabby block of 1960s flats in Burnley, Lancashire. “Most people here are on drugs,” he says matter-of-factly, then nods to a spot under a concrete walkway. “I found a man living right there. He was sleeping outside, on a mattress, with nothing. Nobody else was helping him, so we did.”

If you want a picture of the Church of England at its best, Frost’s parish is a good bet. ...

...

If you want a picture of the CofE at its worst, that’s easier to find: just look at the headlines. In the space of one month, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, was forced to resign over one case of abuse; his predecessor, George Carey, quit the priesthood over another; the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, faced demands to go over the same case. Hundreds more allegations are yet to be resolved.

...

The CofE was founded under Henry VIII in 1534, amid his tumultuous split from Rome, but the average Anglican today, according to Welby, is a woman in her thirties living in Africa. That’s because of the Anglican Communion, the family of churches founded mainly by imperial missionaries in countries from Nigeria and Uganda to Australia and Canada.

Many of these churches are thriving. While weekly worshippers in the CofE have plunged well below one million, the number of Anglicans in Africa is estimated at more than 50 million.
But the issue of homosexuality threatens to drive them away.

Emphasis added. You have to scroll down quite a bit to get to that part, but it seems to me *that* is the story.

The religious divide of today is Sodomy versus non-Sodomy, not any of the issues that beguiled Christendom in the time of the Reformation.

The C of E (because is it the "established" church) will not go against the interests of their ruling class. So Sodomy it is.
I spell sodomy with a capital-S because it is the name of a religion.

Sarah Mullally, the Bishop of London. Probable next Archbishop of Canterbury.

Did I see her behind the counter last time I renewed my driver's license? { snicker }

The “Church” (lol) of England was born from murderous pig Henry’s TESTICLES. Literally... Henry’s nads.

It never was legitimate.

Of course it’s going under.
Any sect started so that a king could divorce and kill his ex is doomed from the start.
It’s Catholic light.

We see this weakness in most Christian denominations today. The actual words of Christ take a backseat to the latest woke fads. The future ain’t looking so good here.

Meanwhile Islam continues on in its march.

It and the associated perversions are a religion, infecting the body politic and whole denominations. Romans 1 still applies.

“Eyden argues that the CofE’s position on homosexuality is a major part of the problem, suggesting that abusers such as Smyth are often acting on repressed desires. “If the church had an affirmative attitude to the many gay people among its most faithful followers, it would make warped sexual expression much less likely,” he says. “If gay sex is always sinful, the church will continue to produce either neurotics or monsters.”

“Abuse cases continue to mount up and evidence to the independent inquiry into child sexual abuse has found that 70 to 80 per cent of victims are male”.

“All agree that more vigilance is needed but liberals such as Eyden argue that the deeper solution to much of the abuse is more fundamental: support and bless gay relationships”.

And right there is the problem. They are spiritually blind. They don’t get it.

It is most interesting, when I ask the proponents of sodomy and related perversions to explain their “Christian” interpretation of Romans 1. Such resentment at the question. Such anguish at attempting to dismiss it. Such contradiction as they try to rationalize their stance in light of the text. Such confusion that Christian scripture so obviously contradicts their “Christian” advocacy of sodomy and related perversion.

The solution to the problem of abuse in the clergy is to legitimize abuse in thcongregation. If you ameliorate one sin by regularizing it in a more open fashion then you have cut the church off from the Bible to which strict adherence is required for salvation.

Despite the dodgy historical origins, there have been many serious Christians in the C of E.

C.S. Lewis for example, and he was far from the only one.

But being an "established" church has always tended to compromise them.

Of course.

Any church NOT in communion with Rome is ‘illegitimate’.

Believe it or not, I can never condemn anyone for leaving or resisting Catholicism.

Henry wasn’t that. He was an evil, self-serving killer pig who started his very own fake religion - that masses of stupid anglos follow to this day.

They have to be alive to be doomed. The Church of England has been a mouldy zombie for 50-100 hundred years.

Yes, the Engishmen have worshipped sodomy and indeed, put sodomy above salvation for at least 200 years since Shelley and Byron’s time. For a while, the guard rails of tradition kept this from taking over the culture, even as England started moving away from Christianity in the 19th century. Now that they are truly post-Christian, there are no guard rails, and sodomy has saturated their culture.

The Church of England is actually somewhat behind the Woke agenda and is still fixated on Gay marriage and women priests. Trans is the new - hip - cool - Wokeness that the gay activists are pushing, more Satanic then plain old gayness.

COE GET WITH IT. New baptism services for gender change when the “believer” picks a new gender appropriate name? Healing rites for sex change operations? Sunday services that distribute hormone treatments instead of communion?

When asked all of the COE top brass blames falling attendance on not being accepting and loving enough.
