For some young men in particular, the populist pitches from Mr. Sanders and Mr. Trump aligned with their attitudes about the ruling class.
They feel frustrated by the status quo, and they’re fed up with the system. They don’t trust politicians, and they want revolutionary change.
They are men, many of them younger, who are looking for a champion. Once, they liked Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont as a presidential candidate. This election, they voted for Donald J. Trump.
The number of Sanders supporters who have gone MAGA is most likely a sliver of the electorate. But they illustrate an important pattern in American politics, political scientists say, one that might help explain Mr. Trump’s success with young men in particular. For certain voters, political preferences are defined not by party, but by their attitudes about the ruling class — whether they trust people in power, or think they’ve rigged the system against ordinary people.
...Mr. Trump’s populist streak has led to a blurring of traditional party lines.
He unnerved some Republicans when he picked a pro-union secretary of labor. When he spoke earlier this year about expanding the child tax credit, a traditionally Democratic goal, he said, “I do things that aren’t necessarily Republican.”
...These voters may not be aligned with a party as much as an anti-establishment ethos — one that is fostered online, sometimes in a conspiratorial vein, on social media, gaming platforms and podcasts.
“Right now I don’t even think young men are clamoring for policy,” Mr. Chapman said. “Young men feel the world closing in. They’re looking for recognition. And they get recognition from the Joe Rogans of the world, they get recognition from Trump, they get recognition from Bernie Sanders.”

Nope, more cluelessness from the Dinosaur media who still have not learned the lessons of 11-5-24
Young “real” men are tired of being ignored, categorized as being racist simply by being white, being passed up in school and careers thru DEI and seeing the military walking down drag queen lane. Among other things.
Some took the Bernie —> RFK —> Trump route. Regardless, Trump built a great coalition. Hope we are able to keep it and build on it.

Bull. Sufficent “conversions” (in the ballot term of the word) in WI and MI from disaffected BernBros won all 3 elections, partially obscured by the Grand Theft Oppo in 2020. Probably the most underreported element of this remarkable trio of wins by President Trump. But no one on the Left wants to reveal that chasm , that open gap in the Blue Wall.
I think this is a fairly honest assessment.
We tend to think everybody is all-policy-all-the-time when that is not the case. The disaffected are real.
(based on the parts of the article quoted here)
This is in part what grates on me so much about the extreme levels of conservative non-involvement. We could be picking up so, so many votes if we actually got up and did something for a change instead of just repeating the same old same old “just you wait until election day, you’ll see”. This ideology has failed, but people just want it to fail even harder.
From Bernie to DJT? Hard to believe....it’s a huge, huge jump!
I make it a point to honk and wave at folks who have Bernie bumper stickers on their aging cars...it makes me smile.
This oughta trigger that old government leech Bernie.
The issue is not “recognition”—it is respect.
The left treats everyone like dirt to be stomped on at will.
These joker writers have no clue-— how about they ask that loser witch Hitlery about Bernie-Bots and how they treated them... like Seth Rich whom she had murdered (for reference take a look at McCabe the fibbie who took over the “investigation” and was and still is in the clinton’s pocket).
Some who leaned to Bernie, a very small percentage- went over to Trump (particularly those in small business). But the great masses of the ne’er do wells who are die hard Socialists going to Trump? Nah. This time they stayed home and voted maybe for kamuimalo. The RFK,Jr. trad democrats is who the Slimes have missed. They still live in a bubble. Hopefully they too will go out of business. It is a new media and they are behind the eight ball.
NY Slimes gets it wrong-— again!
They grew up over the past 4 years.
Young male voters I talked to were fed up with the woke/DEI/CRT/trans/LGBTQ crap, and seeing special handouts for anyone not them.
Didn’t hear too much about the “ruling class”.
Bullseye.
Bernie has always been a waste to society living off of someone else’s dime.
I don’t think its recognition these men are after. They want to be left alone and not have their principles slandered as being racists just cause they don’t agree with far left freaks...
And they want a future. One of the reasons Elon Musk is so popular is he is the one figure of wealth and power who is showing the young that they DO have a bright future if they care to take it out of the useless hands of the collectivist political class they been following.
Yes, aligned with their attitudes toward brain-dead corrupt 'elites'... you know, like the folks who write for the New York Times.
