French Government Falls in Historic No-Confidence Vote

French lawmakers on Wednesday voted to oust the government of Prime Minister Michel Barnier after just three months in office, a historic move which plunged the country further into political chaos.

For the first time in over 60 years, the National Assembly lower house toppled the incumbent government, approving a no-confidence motion that had been proposed by the hard left but which crucially was backed by the far-right headed by Marine Le Pen.

Barnier's rapid ejection from office comes after snap parliamentary elections this summer which resulted in a hung parliament with no party having an overall majority and the far-right holding the key to the government's survival.

The left voted in favor of the no confidence motion.

What exactly do you know about Isabelle Barnier?

Apparently Le Pen was in favor of it. France is going to hell domestically. The French are stuck with leaders of the same ilk as the ones who drove the 3rd Republic into the ground.

I don’t know about you but I wish DJT would stay home. It’s just too dangerous. MI 6, Uke intell, all off Trump’s enemies will have a better shot at him under these conditions.

“With markets nervous and France bracing for public-sector strikes over the threat of cutbacks that will shut schools and hit air and rail traffic, there is a growing sense of crisis.

The unions have called for civil servants, including teachers and air traffic controllers, to strike on Thursday over separate cost-cutting measures proposed by their respective ministries this autumn.

Meanwhile, Macron is due to host a major international event Saturday with the reopening of the Notre-Dame cathedral after the 2019 fire, with guests including Donald Trump on his first foreign trip since he was elected to be the next US president.”

Yes, I wish Trump would stay at home for awhile, too.

But you know he won’t.

Refresh my memory. Didn’t Le Pen’s ‘far-right’ party look to win the last election after the first round, only to have other parties drop out so that they wouldn’t win the second round?

There is more than enough things to deal with right here at home. No need whatsoever to leave the country, much less going to France which is a chaotic hot mess. Not the right time to go there.

They’re just so damned entrenched!

This happens every week in the EU. No matter how big the percentage of conservatives votes, the liberal parties form a coalition and continue to rule like idiots.

The parliamentary system stinks.

RE: but which crucially was backed by the far-right headed by Marine Le Pen

They keep adding the label “far right” to Marine Le Pen. Exactly what policies does she espouse that makes her “far right”?

French Government Falls...

Not as dramatic as the attack on the Bastille or the 18th Brumaire of Napoleon Bonaparte.
