The Libertarian Party lauded the recent selection of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to head President-elect Donald Trump’s Health and Human Services Department as a “groundbreaking moment” for the party in an email this week, referencing Kennedy’s lifetime membership with the party.
“We are thrilled to announce a momentous achievement for the Libertarian Party: President-Elect Donald Trump has officially nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a proud Lifetime Member of the Libertarian Party, as the next Secretary of Health and Human Services,” the party stated on Monday.
The party praised Kennedy’s selection, calling it significant for both the organization and Americans who value “transparency, personal choice, and medical freedom.” The email outlined several libertarian approaches Kennedy has supported or committed to pursuing, including opening federal health databases to the public, removing conflicts of interest at the Food and Drug Administration, cutting financial ties between regulators and their respective industries, opposing vaccine mandates, and defunding studies “influenced by big pharmaceutical and agricultural interests.”
“We are proud to see a Libertarian Party voice at the forefront of one of the most abusive areas of government and hope RFK Jr. will choose libertarian solutions over federal control,” the party added.
Earlier this year, then-Republican candidate Donald Trump addressed Libertarian delegates and his supporters at the Libertarian National Convention, pledging to appoint a libertarian to his cabinet if the party supported him. However, Trump did not clarify whether the appointee would be an ideological libertarian or a member of the Libertarian Party, leading to considerable speculation within the party. That same weekend, Kennedy became a sustaining member of the Libertarian Party in order to be eligible for its presidential nomination under party bylaws.
Additionally, in October, Kennedy hinted that he could potentially be Trump’s libertarian appointee. When asked by New York Sun reporter Caroline McCaughey who the libertarian in Trump’s cabinet might be, Kennedy reportedly replied, “Maybe me. I’ve always considered myself libertarian.”
Nah. I have libertarian leanings but the capital L Libertarian Party has run some real dogs these past few election cycles.
Same here. I should add I was a presidential elector for the Libertarian Party in my home state of North Dakota for the 1988 presidential race.
I like your tag line.
RFK Jr has big Pharma peeing their pants, this proves that he is the ideal candidate for Secretary of HHS.
Ah the days of Ron Paul and Russell Means. Interesting times!
RFK, Jr. is hardly a “Libertarian”. Dems already had their “chosen one” (Kamalala)... he just needed an alternate party to run with before he decided to endorse PDJT.
:)
True. But the LP is eager to claim a victory. To claim that one of their own occupies a cabinet position.
Indeed they were.
“Lifetime” membership? Until a year ago he was, like the rest of his family, a registered democrat and was elected to congress as such.
You’ve been paying attention too. The Republican Party as Reagan described is based on libertarian (small “l”) values.
We’ll see whether or not DJT & Co bails out Wall Street (again) or remembers Main Street when the Fit hits the Shan
Yeah, riiight. Eyes rolling....
Kennedy probably bought a “Lifetime Membership” before the convention.
It means he no longer has to pay annual dues to remain a member.
I misspoke, not Republican Party. I should have said “conservatism”
“he used to say, “Libertarianism is the heart and soul of conservatism.” - CATO
The only time I become a libertarian is when the republicans run a McCain or Romney ‘type.’
Then after the inevitable loss we can start a conversation about how to win.

Besides, libertarianism ultimately can’t reconcile itself with reality. It’s a flawed system. Granted, there are different strains of libertarianism but they’re all flawed to some extent, some more than others. So self-described libertarians are used to living with contradictions.

Exactly. There’s a reason they consistently poll in the 3-4% range.
One of the pharmacists I work with is losing his sh¡t, saying, “He doesn’t believe in vaccines! He’s going to ban a bunch of drugs because he thinks people just need to change their diet! [Insert more leftist propaganda here]!”
Most of my coworkers are like that. It’s part of working in health care near a major city, it seems.
I didn’t have much to say other than to suggest they listen to what the man himself says without the filter of media twisting words; and to listen for more than fifteen seconds at a time.
Oh. Got it.
